Using Roma Pass for re-entry into Colosseum?

We have a private tour scheduled for the Colosseum/Forum/Palatine Hill at 10am on May 4. We will be using our Roma Passes to enter theses places. I am interested in booking an underground tour of the Colosseum later in the day or the next day if there is availability. Is it possible to use the Roma Pass again as part of the combined entry for the 2 day period?

I'd be interested in knowing what you find, as I too have tried to get answer to that question! This - from a post earlier in the month - will show you how far I got....

The RomaPass website says nothing about how many times you can visit the Colosseum, and you'll find that their helpdesk (available on +39 06 06 08 ) doesn't know the answer for that card either...

I see however that Pierreci are clear that the ordinary tickets allow only ONE visit to each site:

Il biglietto Colosseo/Foro Romano e Palatino è valido per due giorni ed include un ingresso per ognuno dei due siti.

Peter, in another forum, I was given the answer that the Roma Pass can be used the next day for re-entry to the Colossuem, but it would be counted as "Free Entry" #2 and further use of the Pass would give one the reduced entry fee. I don't know if this information comes from reading rules or personal experience.

The Pass rules probably mirror the individual ticket rules.

I do know that you have 2 days to see the Colosseum/Forum/Palatine, so I was wishing that I could use day 2 of this situation to gain free entry to the Colosseum again.

We are planning on using our Roma Passes to see the Borghese Gallery for free, but the reduced price tickets are not that expensive so we will probably just go that route.

My suspicion is that they may refuse second visits, so as to prevent the card being shared with someone else?

In a perfect world, it wouldn't be necessary - however a look at the Top 30 list will show how few people apparently visit no more than one pay-for attraction whilst in the city...

The wording has changed on the pass since the last one I bought (re-entry allowed). Here is the current wording on Roma Pass which still isn't entirely clear.

# If a museum or an archaeological site has a combined entry arrangement, does the visit count as only one entry and which museums and/or archaeological sites have combined entry arrangements?

Yes. Wherever there is a combined entry arrangement, this counts as a single entry and includes any event/exposition being held at the site at the time of the visit. This is the case, for example, with the Coliseum (where entry includes the Coliseum, the Roman Forum and the Palatine).

Museums and/or archaeological sites with combined entry are:

* COLISEUM: Coliseum, Roman Forum, Palatine.
* MACRO: Macro and Macro Testaccio.
* PLANETARIUM: Planetarium and Museum of Astronomy
* APPIA ANTICA: The Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella, the Baths of Caracalla and the Villa of the Quintili.
* THE ROMAN NATIONAL MUSEUM: The Crypta Balbi, the Palazzo Altemps, the Palazzo Massimo, the Baths of Diocletian.

# When the ticket used for a combined entry is valid for more than a day, can it be used during the three days in which the Card is valid?

Yes. One of the museums covered by the combined entry arrangement can be visited on the first day that the Rome Pass and/or Rome & Più Pass is activated. Then the other sites included in the combination can be visited on the remaining days.

For example, with the entry ticket to the Coliseum, the three sites included in the entry can be visited on two different days. Therefore, if the Coliseum is chosen either as one of the first two sites visited for free, or as one of the sites visited at a discounted rate, then the Forum and the Palatine can be visited on different days (as long as the days fall within the Card’s period of validity), while, during the same period, the Card can be used to visit other sites.

Les, is this you?

And this?

Does seem that no one can tell you for sure, regardless of how many website paras they regurgitate? I've kept one that we bought back in 2006 and neither the card nor the leaflets - dated 25th July of that year - mention readmissions (allowed or not), so it could be a very long time since that wording was changed.

And as I wrote previously, even the RomaPass helpline operators don't know - so you may just have to be the first to put it to the test.

Very unlikely you'll be arrested for trying - but is it worth it, with the full price being only €4.50 more than the reduced rate for pass holders?

Yes Peter, that is me. I thought that I would cover all of my bases with my question.
I did get another response on a forum stating that re-admission into the Colosseum, even on the same day, will result in using up a free entry.

I think that my question has been answered. Thanks for your input.

The info I listed above is from the FAQ's on the Roma Pass website.
