Using ATT phone in Europe
We have friends going to Spain next week. They just got a new ATT phone and paid $5.99 for a month's use in Spain with calls for $0.99 a minute. We asked about roaming charges and they are under the impression there aren't any. Great deal if it's true. Does anyone know for sure?

Seamus is correct..I use my AT=T phone in Europe frequently and that IS the charge per minute. If they hadn't paid that fee the calls would be over a dollar per minute.
Agreed, this is much more expesnive than if they got a phone card locally and used it but they are paying for convenience and no need to change SIM cards, use a different phone, use a pay phone, etc., etc.

We used our ATT/Cingular phone in France last summer. I liked using the phone that I was familiar with, and it was easier on my family to not have to look up some new phone number for me. We did the international plan for just the time we were there, and then switched back when we returned home. No roaming charges, just the .99 per minute. DD did some texting, which is only .50 per text sent, no charge for incoming.

I'm glad they've got a good deal. We had offered to loan them our Mobal phone that we bought for overseas trips. We only pay for calls we make and calls from the USA are free (for us). I didn't want to take our normal cell phones because DH uses his for business and personal and everyone has my cell number. I've always been afraid if we took them overseas, we'd be paying a lot for unecessary calls, not to mention sales call (even though we're on every NO CALL list I can sign up for!). I'm anxious to see how this set up works for them.
