I'm going to Europe this summer and I was wondering...

1. Will my iPhone (under contract with AT&T) will work in these countries: UK, France, Spain, Italy, Czech Republic, Hungary, Serbia, Romania, and Turkey?

2. Will using my iPhone there be super expensive?

3. If I can't use my iPhone there, is there any phone that I can use during my entire trip? Or do I have to change SIM cards in each country?

I have taken my iPhone to the UK, France and Italy with no problems...other than the cost.

Your iPhone will work in all the countries you list. All except Serbia are included in ATT's 'International Messaging and Data' plans. You can sign up for 50MB data in one month for $24.95. I find that generally sufficient for checking and replying to email, plus limited web browsing, for three weeks away. You can also purchase 125MB international data roaming from ATT for $49.99, and it goes up from there.

You can add international messaging, 50 messages for $10, 200 messages for $30, etc. I find messaging a good way to keep in contact with family at home.

If you plan to use your iPhone for voice calls, check with ATT for cost of adding that service. ATT World Traveller offers discounted rates for voice at a charge of $5.99 per month. Worth having if you plan to limit your iPhone use to making reservations for accommodations, etc. If you plan to make lengthy voice calls, you'd be better off purchasing a local phone card when needed.

If you do take your iPhone with you, make sure to turn off data roaming except when you want to check email or use it for specific tasks. Use wifi where available. This will help to keep your usage within the limits of your international data roaming plan.
