Farncophile03 with the very GREATEST of respect I think if you wait long enough you can get a horror story about EVERY airline out there.

Sorry, but my recommendation stands to advise flexibility in case of a "mishap." To say that "it is going to happen because it has happened to others is irresponsible IMO.

Kistmet, thanks, can't believe 2 weeks from today I'll be on my way! Can't wait to see Rome again in the off-season, no lines, no unbearable heat, and not as much competition for dinner reservations! Have a whole list of new things to see, and looking forward to a little more R & R!

I know you & Brooke will have a great time, and you are both so gorgeous that men will be following you everywhere! In the meantime, I will throw another couple of coins into the Trevi for you!

Thanks to all for your varied opinions. I know that this whole airline thing to Europe can be very unpredictable. I feel certain that my niece will do OK with the 3 hours to make her connecting flight, though I will advise her about equipping her carry-on with some essentials, just in case. It never hurts to prepare for the worse, and then be grateful if it doesn't happen.

Rkkwan, I was confused about your post concerning other one-stop airlines to Rome. Were you informing me that there are other airlines that have only one stop and one layover from New Orleans to Rome? I thought I did my homework, but maybe I missed something. Please clarify. jg

Correct. One can fly Continental MSY-EWR-FCO, and Delta MSY-ATL-FCO or MSY-JFK-FCO.

Agree with kayd; USAirways is no better or worse than any other airline. I have only had two experiences of luggage arriving later than I did, and neither time was it with USAirways.

A bit off subject but an analogous situation: I, recently having some down time at work, checked Trip Advisor for European hotels we have stayed in over the years, and w/o exception, reviews were all over the place, glowing reports interspersed with scathing ones, and everything in between. It's the same with airlines, IMO.

Hello from a fellow New Orleanian. I just took that flight in November. Everything went fine. We arrived early and no lost luggage.
I have gone to Europe 5 times and have taken US Air 3 times. I like the personal tv's in coach.
Have a wonderful time!!!

It's not a big deal either, and I don't know if other airlines do this, however, US Air sends some baggage ahead to your destination if a flight is canceled.

I do really like the in seat entertainment units that are on the Airbus planes that USAirways flies PHL<>FCO. The seats are small in coach, but the return flight goes a little faster with movies at your seat. At night, I take a sleeping pill.
