UNITES AIRLINES
Has anyone booke flights through United Airlines? I can get return flights from Dublin to New York for 290 euro in April/May flying with aer lingus. It sounds so cheap when the cheapest flight I can get with aer lingus is 450 euro.! Im very tempted as im on a tight budget and I REALLY want to see my son in New York.
all i know about them is that they are American and I have seen very mixed reviews on them.

United is about as mixed in what it delivers as most US airlines. If you don't have to change planes, and can avoid checking luggage, I think your chances of having an uncomfortable but safe flight are just as good as they would be on any US airlines. If I really wanted to see my son in New York, I would book this ticket.
Ask me if I would connect on United, and I might say no.
I have never flown Aer Lingus so I can't compare it to United.

Although you mention United Airlines it sounds as though you are really booking a flight on Aer Lingus, non-stop from Dublin to NY's JFK airport. Is that correct?
If so the only contact you'll actually have with United is the ticket purchase. At checkin you'll go to the AL counter, and fly on an AL airplane.

Yes from what I can see Im just booking /purchasing the ticket from United and they list Aerlingus as their carriers.
Thats why I was so interested. I know aerlingus are very good as they are our national airline an i have used them before. So you think Im safe enough booking with them?

United and Aer Lingus are now partners and code share on certain flights. After booking, you should make sure you get the Aer Lingus record locator number (it will probably be different than United's) and make sure that you have the actual Aer Lingus flight numbers, rather than the United code share flight numbers. These will help you with check-in and managing your travel. Also, I don't know Aer Lingus's procedures for assigning seats, but United may not be able to do that for you; if it is possible to get advance seat assignments, you may have to call Aer Lingus to do so.
