United airlines for overseas trip

I'm looking at going with United for my trip to Switzerland in September. Mainly, it's because they have direct flights from
LAX to Zurich. Has anyone flown them overseas before? How is the service? I've only flown them domestically.

United started charging for alcohol ($5) in January, 2005 when crossing the Atlantic. Bring those $5 bills. Makes me mad. I like a glass of wine with dinner and $5 for a little bottle--you can buy 4 for $6 in the store--ticks me off.

Check www.seatguru.com for video/audio and seat width and pitch.

Buy your liquor miniatures in a package store... I know they TELL you you cannot consume your own but if you do you will not be alone.

Are you sure thats not a codeshare with Swiss?
I have taken that Swiss flight from LAX. Its long (11 hours?), but fine. Booze is free.

Only non-stop LAX-ZRH is operated by Swiss Internationa (LX) Airbus 340. UA codeshare on this flight.

Seats have about-average 32" pitch. Each seat has personal video screen, and I believe AVOD (audio/video on demand) with like 35 channels.

It's definitely better than a UA flight.

You know, I think it is operated by Swiss airlines. Cool. Thanks for the information, everyone!

and at that point Swiss will be part of the Star Alliance so you can earn United FF miles.

P.S. Try to book directly with Swiss, you might get a lower fare!

Booking direct with Swiss is $180.00 more per person! It didn't used to be this way.
It's getting crazy expensive to fly overseas these days.
