Understanding the trains!!!!!1

I am so confused. I want to take a train from Naples to Rome around 10 am or so on Thursday, May 10th. I looked on the EuroRail site and Trenitalia and can't figure it out. The prices I saw are so widely varied. I also didn't understand all the choices of what kind of fare I want.
I am interested in a nice experience, first class. Is it really necessary for me to make a reservation now, online, for that date in May? Should I let our hotel handle this for us? We arrive in Italy on May 7th.

Thanks a bunch,
Shirley
I would appreciate any help you can give me.

See the following link for a schedule on May 10th. There are at least two trains that I found including the 9068 that departs Napoli Centrale at 10:10A arriving Rome Termini 11:37A and the 586 that departs Napoli Centrale at 10:24A, arriving Rome Termini 12:33P.

Click on the "details" button for train number, station, etc. Not sure the class will show up until the time of booking.

Take a deep breath and relax.

Trains run from Naples to Rome once or twice every hour. When you get to Naples, simply purchase a ticket, or ask the hotel to do it for you. There is no need to buy a ticket before get there. You could simply walk into the train station the morning of your departure and purchase a ticket.

There are sometimes discount tickets offered online, but since you indicated you want to travel 1st class I'm led to assume saving $20 or $30 isn't your top priority.

It's a 1 1/2 to 2 hr ride, depending on the train you take.

That link does not appear to be working so here it is in all its glory. Have you created an account with Trenitalia? You'll need to do so in order to book on-line.

Try this...

9068 should read 9608--sorry!

J62 offers good advice--I purchased tickets in advance only to change them once we arrived at the station.

Hi S,

Go to www.trenitalia.com.

If you are traveling alone, pick any ES* and purchase a 1cl ticket using "standard" fare.

If there are 2 of you, choose the AV train and click "2 for 1".

You will get a confirmation number. The email is your ticket.

Enjoy your visit.

The price is best on trenitalia would it change if buy at station? This is for 4th April.
Any suggestions?
