UNbelievable airfare to Madrid; now the apartment

I just booked us a great airfare to MAD from BOS in November, $350 rt total pp. The flight is Spanair, operated by USAirways. While I haven't flown USAirways in a long time and the reviews I have read are not glowing, we'll take our chances.

Now I have to rent an apartment and I am looking at the habitat apartment website. I have used them before and was very satisfied. Here is a linke to the apartment that I am considering http://www.habitatapartments.com/en/...price&pagina=1 I would love opinions on the area as we have never been to Madrid. Thanks all.

I did. I had to go into work this morning and get the time off so I didn't know if the airfare would still be there, however it was and I booked it for Veteran's Day weekend. It will be a short trip, only four nights, but sometimes those are the best kind of trips.

We were in Barcelona last November and it was great!! I know it's an entirely different city, but we are looking forward to it.

Do you know anything about the La Latina area? We are looking at the above apartment and it says it is located in that area.

Hi,

I'm not familiar with that particular street , but in general La Latina is a good area. Just be aware, depending where it is ,it could be noisy. We stayed at an apt in La Latina area a couple of years ago (Plaza de la Paja), and although our apt was ok , some nearby plazas/ streets were overrun at night with young people participating on "botellón" ( they bring big bottles of booze and congregate to drink and party).

I posted a link to my original post of the apartment and it does have a map with it. If you have time and can look at it and let me know if the street location looks good to you, I'd appreciate it. It's always helpful to have the opinions of those who have already been to a place.

Sorry, I just reread your post and see that you already said you are not familiar with that street. Thanks.

La Latina is really a mixed area-lots of Chinese wholesale stores and as cruiseluv mentioned it can be noisy especially in the summer. Hopefully it will be cool/cold enough to deter the botellon!
I really don't like the fact that the apt is on the third floor (US 4rth) and no elevator!
I would suggest you try to find another apt.I use niumba.com

Why don;t you check a posting in this very forum regarding a four stars NEw hotel in Madrid
for 65 euro, this sounds great as the great fare you got. May be this is your lucky trip all the way. Good luck.

Thanks for the ideas. I will take a look at your suggestions. THe 4th floor walk up really doesn't bother me. I like the look of the apartment, just hope the neighborhood is good. We will be there in November.

Graciela, do you know the name of the hotel? Unfortunately I don't ahve a trip to Madrid planned for this year but would love to know for future reference.

Opaldog, as Chapla says La Latina is a mixed bag. My location was very nice , at Plaza de la Paja, but most times we had to cross the botellón area, that wasn't pleasant. We were there in March and that didn't deter them!

Think about the possibility of staying at a hotel. I find , specially if it's the first time I'm in a city, that having hotel staff handy for questions saves time. I have had good experience with Hotel Prado, a 3 stars located close to Plaza Santa Ana and Museum triangle. I like that area much better than La Latina. Last year I got a rate of 66 euros / night for a double!

I just took a quick look but it looks as if the map shows the apt being in the Lavapies area, which may or may not be to your taste.....can you get the exact address?

Hi Cruiseluv,The information regarding the hotel was posted by lincasanova this is it:

"New 4* Boutique Hotel in Madrid for 65 eu INCL breakfast this Summer"
"Check out travelzoo.com, or travelzoo.es. Off the Castellana in an elegant neighborhood. Buses along the Castellana take you everywhere. Walking distance to museum triangle probably 10-15 minutes max.

http://www.travelzoo.com/es/ofertas-locales/oferta/2754

this link is in Spanish. I hope it is on the English version. Good luck. A few black out dates in August. Begins late July."

Oh, sorry, I meant the apartment location might be Lavapies! Not so good, I don't think. Not for me, anyway!

Appreciate all replies. I have a lot of research to do. I do want an apartment even though it's a short stay. We just enjoy ourselves more in an apartment.
