Umbria - Perugia in November
Hello.
Has anyone spent some time in Umbria during the month of November. What might the weather be like? Also, what is the mood like at that time of year? Is it possible to still see a good deal without renting a car relying solely on public transportation? I'm looking to base myself in Perugia.
Thanks in advance.

I visited Perugia in late-November/early-December. the weather was much like New York at the same time of year. We stayed 4 nights and took a daytrip by us to Gubbio (1 hour away) and by train to Assisi (20 minnutes). It takes 10-20 minutes to get down the hill from the center to the train station. The bus station is closer to the center.

It's a fantastic time of year to go because you'll have the olive oil pressings, the wine harvest and fresh truffles. I'll bet everybody is in a good mood.
Also, I guess if I had to choose between climbing up and down stairs all day -- that's Perugia, and it actually get's fun -- I'd pick the cooler weather to do it in. Perugia is also partial to the kind of restaurants that cook over an open fire, and the hot chocolate is superb, so even if it's chilly, the town is on your side.
The most important thing you'll need other than an umbrella is shoes with good traction. You don't want to slip on those old stones.
Some very important sites in Umbria (like Assisi) are accessible by train, but you might splurge on a car rental for two days or so just to see places that aren't. I would wait to see what the weather is like, and your mood. I doubt you'll have any trouble reserving a rental then.
November will mean fewer tourists and the fun of having all the students around. The art museum in Perugia is one the most illuminating and beautiful in Italy, and Perugia itself is a unique city. Enjoy your trip!
