U.K. universities accommodation

Has anyone had experience with self catering holiday accommodation in the summer time at U.K. university residences? Especially interested in London and Manchester. Approximate weekly cost? Thanks

I haven't done this, and I'm not sure about the self-catering aspect, but I have this information.<BR><BR>New York Times March 02:<BR>London School of Economics<BR>Several properties, some have triple or quad rooms. Some include breakfast.<BR>July through late Sept.<BR>www.lse.ac.uk/vacations<BR>phone 207 955 7575 Sample rates:<BR>$39 for a single to $128 for a quad.<BR><BR>from Fodor’s forum<BR>"When I traveled to London last year on an Elderhostel, we stayed in the residence hall of the London School of Economics on Rosebury Avenue (near Sadlers Wells Theater on map) near Islington. We met several women traveling alone who were staying there. We had private rooms, shared baths and meal tickets are available for very nice buffet. You can probably find them on the web, it might be worth looking into (and we were by far the oldest people there!). We felt very secure. Easy bus and tube connections, Islington itself is charming. <BR>the International Students House - it's 10 pounds/night and close to two tube lines. Regents' Park is around the corner. Very clean. www.ish.org.uk "<BR><BR>www.icsl.ac.uk/support<BR>/universityhalls.htm lists universities in London that rent out their student dorm rooms each summer. Rooms vary from single to double to group-sized acommodation.<BR><BR>www.buac.co.uk low-cost on-campus accommodations at a selection of universities in the UK<BR><BR>

Don't know about Manchester - but it should be easy to find info on line. In London, three choices are:<BR><BR>LSE which offers B&B accomodations in April and July - late Sept from around 18GBP; <BR><BR>Univ of Westminster from approx 21.50 mid june to mid sept.<BR><BR>Imperial college has rooms from around 40GBP just south of Hyde park near all the museums (V&A, Science, etc)

We stayed in college housing in Durham last year but only one night. We arranged it at the travel information center in town and it was around 16 pounds per person including breakfast. It was on a great little cobblestone street right across from a beautiful church. The ladies in the dining hall were we ate breakfast treated us like kings and were so friendly. The room we stayed in had 3 beds and a bathroom. The room wasn't the Hilton but we loved the whole experience.

Stayed in the University at Durham in 2000 as part of a conference. Very nice room in the "Castle" and a very reasonnable rate. This is highly recommended as is Durham especially the Cathedral.

We stayed at LSE's High Holborn residence two years ago and were thrilled with both price and location. At that time a double with two single beds and ensuite bath was 56 GBP and included a lavish breakfast buffet. Rooms were clean, simple, bright with big windows, and very large by London standards. Best of all, it's a short walk to Covent Garden, British Museum, Sloane House with easy tube and bus access. For variety, we're staying at Beit Hall this summer, near Albert Hall, which also sounds nice--newly refurbed, and 76 GPB per night.

I also stayed at Durham for a conference, and I found the accommodation really quite good. I had a single room en-suite, in Collingwood College, which is a little further away from the Cathedral, but of a good standard. I believe the cost was about &pound;25 B&B per night.<BR><BR>Also, I work for Edinburgh Uni., and we rent out some really pretty nice student accommodation in the vacations - not that I'm plugging it, or anything! You can see what's available at http://www.accom.ed.ac.uk/commercial_services/commercial_out.htm<BR><BR>Jenny

My son is going to school in Canada at Queens University. They have a castle campus(about 60 miles south of London around east Sussex) that is used in the summer for tourist housing-rest of the year for students.Forgive the spelling but I think that it is called HERSTMONCEAUX? It is a 15th century Norman castle with about 550 acres around it.I think that there is a modern residence hall built next to it with computer access/AC etc.It is where the students would live during the school year.If you are interested-I will try and find out numbers.
