Barbara - Your husband and I have much in common.

flygirl - I hope you enjoyed Annecy. Did you get a chance to put your clipless pedals into action?

Treesa - In terms of natural beauty I think that region is one of the most picturesque I have visited in France.

swandav2000 and greg - Good info to have.

cynthia - Thanks for the "like" on Facebook.

winnick - It's always a problem trying to figure out which beautiful area to visit in France. But it's not a bad problem to have.

Leely2 - I can't promise you great information (since I was there mostly to relax) but there should be at least one or two giggles.

FMT, there you go again. . . Another wonderful photo exhibit. Fabulous stuff. I'm definitely setting that as a place to go on my next French visit.

Now, the only problem is this: it's somewhat like an algebraic equation: the beauty of your photos > or = the tears I shed in not being there.

Thanks for the trip, it's "almost" like being there. You do great work.

PRLCH - I promise to inspire you with future trip reports about other areas in France.

jobo - I'm not very good at math but I think what you mean is that you are jonesin' to come to France. Look me up when you get here. Repeat report readers are entitled to a drink on me.

TPAYT - I'm honored to be bookmarked.

Incredibly beautiful photos, FMT. Your best yet, I think. Annecy is now a future must for me.

Those are definitely some big, beefy bovines.

Love your funny, casual writing style and approach to life.

Nice that you could test drive your bike before purchasing!

You are most entertaining, but I think my favorite comment was this: "One thing I've noticed in my various travels around Europe is the absence of wild animals (save for the chamois in the mountains, and birds). I remember being in Rome in some public park and a crowd of people had gathered around a squirrel, oohing and ahhing at probably the least spectacular representative of the wild animal kingdom. I felt like telling them we run those things over with ours car every thirty or forty feet back in the States. It seems the people of Europe have blasted the native fauna nearly out of existence."

Am at Chamonix and adoring the trompe l'oeil on the side of the building. Wonderful shots. What camera please? And did you increase the saturation or was the blue really that blue?

You and DW sound like fun travelers. Loved the endearing lack of detail. LOL

sap - After reading your beautifully written, thoroughly descriptive and well researched trip reports I gave up even trying to compete and decided it would be best to just go in the complete opposite direction. I'll leave all that descriptive stuff to the pros and focus on fine tuning my goofball narrative style.

TDudette - My camera is a pretty basic point and shoot digital camera (a Nikon Coolpix) so there were no fancy settings. I'm going to have to look in a dictionary and see what saturation means. The book I'm reading (Bambi) doesn't have words like that. Your last sentence put a huge smile on my face. I think it's the way you used "endearing" to describe "lack of detail". So appropriate. Double LOL.

Ha! Well, I do go overboard. The obsessiveness with detail is not for everybody. I'm quite sure your easy-breezy, off-the-cuff style is much more endearing and digestible to the majority, luv! TDudette got that right, fer sure. (And it's probably the secret to your charm that keeps Mrs. FMT waiting so patiently, though you scare her half to death with your daredevil ideas.)

sap - I think it's nice to see both our trip reports on the same page. That way there's something for everybody.

I also use a Nikon Coolpix ($75 at Staples; yes, we splurged) and I must say you do wonders with yours. My photos are never that great. What am I missing? Other than spending more than $75 for a camera.

One of the (few) things I miss about the U.S. is how much cheaper technology related products are. I think the Mrs. paid 200€ for the same camera here (I'll have to double check that). Ugh.

FMT and sap, each of you does an incredible TR job. Don't change a thing!

FMT, I use Paint Shop Pro photo editing software and it has a 'saturation' feature that allows one to make the colors more intense. Photoshop has it also. I only asked because the color in your shots were so amazing.

I'm in Lyon right now looking at the weather forecast for tomorrow's drive to Chambéry and Annecy. Not promising - 70% chance of rain. Hope we have at least some lovely views along the way.
Wish us luck. Sunday's forecast is even worse - 80% chance of heavy rain and a high of 58F. So far, though, the forecast for next week in Burgundy is good. Hope it's true.

Wow! Absolutely incredible pictures. Our trips to France so far have been with granddaughters so the touristy things were tops on our list and, yes, I was guilty of planning for weeks and months. But our next trip will be to places like these (hopefully with a little less obsession for planning). Thanks for the stunning pics!!!

And I agree with TDudette, both you and sap do outstanding TRs. Keep them coming!

TDudette - I am not very sophisticated and just opening up a web browser takes all my limited computer skills so I couldn't imagine trying to manipulate a photo editing program. I envy you sophisticated people. The only photo tricks I use are just trying to make sure my back is to the light source but most importantly trying to frame things so that there is a subject of central interest and then framing that subject, perhaps with some vegetation or a natural landscape feature. Thank you for the compliment.

MaineGG - I am indeed wishing you luck and sending positive telepathic sun vibes your way. The scenery will be inspiring regardless of the weather so just go with it.

john183 - I don't at all begrudge you vacation overplanners. It's easy for me to be so casual since live here but I sympathize with those who have to spend a lot of money to get here and want to get the most out of their vacations. On this particular vacation of ours there wasn't a need to plan much since the idea was to relax and just enjoy nature. As you can tell, I also don't begrudge just being a tourist.

FMT - We left Lyon this morning in a downpour, but it eased up when we were approaching Chambéry so we stopped there and wandered around the big Saturday morning market for about an hour. By the time we reached Aix-les-Bains, things were looking a little better. We took the route you recommended and went up to the Semnoz plateau and down to Annecy. Wonderful high alpine pasture with lots of cows and incredible vistas. Met only one car from Col de Leschaux to Annecy. Couldn't see the big Alps, but the local massif was pretty spectacular. Thanks for your "positive telepathic sun vibes" and your recommendation for this beautiful drive. I can't believe you rode a bicycle on these roads!

Bravo!

I now had time to look at all the wonderful photos in your trip report. From the opening stunning fireworks, to the gorgeous scenery(even loved the cows with the extremely blue sky), to the closing photos of the lake at Saint Jorioz, I was captivated.

This area of France definitely goes on my bucket list.
