>>>OK - take the Leonardo Express train to Rome Termini - 20 mins with about a 15-min walk to the airport train station<<<

Not likely for that leg of your itinerary. The Leonardo only departs twice hourly so if you just missed a train you will be waiting 30 minutes for the next one. Travel time from the airport to Termini is 30 minutes.

My last ES train to Naples was an hour late (travel time is 1:10). The Circumvesuviana also departs every 30 minutes so you may have to wait again and travel time is about 70 minutes.

I am now confused whether to stay in sorrento or somewhere else on AC say positano or somewhere nearby.
Also is there a major difference between sorrento and these places.
Just to remind I would be travelling in december first week and would have 3 nights to stay in AC.

Well having been to all the AC towns and Sorrento a few times - yes there is a big difference between Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast towns of Amalfi itself, Positano and others as those are older looking and lovingly on the sea.

Sorrento is a pleasant watering hole but IMO lacks the old-world charm found in towns on the coast - Sorrento is on the sea too but you really can't see the sea from the main part of town, high up on a ridge with little sea views.

But in December i would rather be in Sorrento than along the coast as in winter your transport options are better from Sorrento, if going to Capri or Ischia or Pompeii or Heraculeam or Naples. I think the boats to Capri from Amalfi towns do not run in winter (not sure) so you would have to go to Sorrento to get a boat anyway.

And Sorrento is a pleasant place too.

Sorrento is on a cliff overlooking the Gulf of Naples. If you're anywhere along that cliff you have great views. IIRC there's a small park on the cliffside between the hotels Bellevue Syrene and Tramontano. And it's a pleasant town.

just on another thoughts , thinking of swapping sorrent/ac with vienna, this would save us lot of time.

Please advice how would vienna be in december, I believe it will be cold , but will it be snowing and all.

Please advice.

Cold, definitely. Snowing, nobody can predict that. In any case, you'd be extremely lucky to see the sun. Vienna in winter is foggy, often continuously for weeks. And in December, the city is completely crazy about preparation for Christmas (which they're taking extremely seriously there), hectic, stressful, huge traffic jams. I wouldn't go to Vienna in December.

@franco , thanks for the suggestion. I am ok with the weather being cold and all , I expect it to snow but afterall I come from India where it doesn't snow in most parts.

But the second comment has to looked into , I would be there for 3 days at max , I believe christmas markets would be fun as well as you suggested crazy. I would be there a week before christmas.
Let's see still have to talk to the airline guys and see whether the ticket can be changed or not, else there is no point in thinking of it.

Did you finally book your trip?if not, I can have my team help you book it- I am a travel consultant and I have an office in Delhi, or I am based in NYC...
I love Italy and have travelled extensively.

I went to Vienna in Dec, 2 years ago and totally loved it!
