Is Damrak a different area from Jordaan? I saw a number of apartments in Jordaan on VRBO but have not checked Damrak area.>
A world of difrerence - the Damrak is one of the busiest streets in Amsterdam - full of tourist schlock near the train station - noisy always it seems - avoid it like the plague -the Jordaan is a few blocks west of the Damrak and is a large area - any of the canalside hotels would be in a great calm area.

Hi PalenQ, I am having a tough time finding an apartment in Jordaan. Are there other areas in Amsterdam that I can try? I WOUld like to widen my area search but not sure what direction I should go. Any suggestions?

De Pijp, Prinseneiland, the Canal Ring east of Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, the area around Waterlooplein, the Plantage, the area around Wittenburgergracht.
Jordaan is tiny, and very busy.
Also, maybe not an apartment? Everyone is hunting for the same thing.
East: https://www.booking.com/hotel/nl/fra...=total;ucfs=1&
In stylish Watergraafsmeer

(very good location at Czaar Peter straat)

Near Oosterpark.
Note, these apartments are not within walking distance of the city centre, or even in the city centre. If you want that, immediately add 700 euros to the total price. I've searched for apartments at 200 euros/a night, maximum.

This one in Zeeburg is in a nice spot, near KNSM eiland, easy tram ride to the city.
This one would be my choice, but you need to be quick

And a look at the apartments on offer confirms that a lot are ex council housing. Social housing in NL used to be to a very very high standard, but it is quite painful to see the process of gentrification and displacement at work on booking.
