Twinkling lights -Eiffel Tower

When do the night lights (twinkling) begin on the Eiffel Tower? Where is the best location to view the Eiffel Tower at night?

Thanks,
Julie

They twinkle on the hour beginning after dark. So the time the lights start twinkling depends on when you are there.

I found the best view was from one of the Seine boats. You're up close to the tower.

I love the view from Trocadero. Amazing as you come up the metro stairs, round the corner and there it is. It is a ritual each trip, see the tower twinkle, eat escargot and drink beer, watch them twinkle once more. I am officially in Paris again.

Enjoy the lights, Julie49. There's nothing like seeing the Eiffel Tower lighting up for the first time (well, I guess it comes second to actually catching your first glimpse of the tower when you arrive in Paris!).

Our hotel room had a view of the tower and we would stay up each night for the "last twinkling". Have a great trip!

The twinkling every hour has been reduced from 10 minutes to 5 minutes to save energy.

The lights viewed from the lower levels looking up are quite impressive. We got some great nighttime photo images of the metal work from inside the structure.

So were the fireworks at the millenium countdown, though you'll be a bit early for the next such show.

Enjoy your trip.

The view from Trocadero is our absolute favorite - we were there night before last and my niece said it was the highlight of her visit. The twinkling starts on the hour but, as kerouac has noted, now lasts only five minutes. At the time of your visit, I'd plan to go about 11PM or midnight, as it will be dark enough then to appreciate the effect. If your camera has a video capture setting, it makes a great clip!

Thanks everyone, for the time and places to view. I had considered Tour Montparnasse b/c we our hotel is about 15 minutes away.
