TUSCANY - Seeking Special Occasion Hotel

I'm celebrating a special occasion and want to stay somewhere really wonderful in Tuscany in late May. I cant say money is no object, but am willing to pay for charm, views, great food and wine. Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks for your help!

There is a wonderful, very romantic place in the Tuscan countryside between Pienza and Montepulciano called La Saracina. It is owned by a very simpatico American couple who have been in Italy for almost three decades. You might have trouble booking since it is so close to your departure date, but it is worth a try. They have four suites, with palatial bathrooms, beautifully decorated bedrooms, fireplaces(wood provided), gorgeous grounds, charming breakfast room with views of the valley, and two wonderful dogs for companionship. Don and Jesse McCobb are knowledgeable about the surrounding towns and give first-rate restaurant recommendations. More details in Karen Brown's Charming B&Bs of Italy. Phone & fax 011-39-578-748022 . Don sends a good map that makes finding the place very easy, and many of Tuscany's most charming towns are an easy drive from here.

There is another wonderful place, very near the
above recommendation (which is smack i the middle
of Tuscany, very convenient) and is also one of
Karen Brown's. It is the Locanda Dell'Amorosa
just south of Sinalunga. This is a beautiful 14th-
century medieval village with an enormous and peaceful courtyard with its own little church. This is very old-world and quite charming. There is a
great and well known restaurant there whose massive
beams and natual stone-and-brick walls with arched windows that was once horse stables. They also have their own winery which features great selections for tasting each day. They may have a swimming pool by now. Tel: 39-0577- 67-94-97 and Fax: 39-577-63-20-01. 17 large double rooms. Lire 345,000-560,000
In Sinaluga there is a fantastic restaurant that will serve you way more than you can eat and is unbeatable for wonderful Italian cuisine called the
The Grotte. If you are nearby, please go there.
In summer the terrace overlooks the countryside and
you will never forget the meal. I think they start
serving about 7 or 8 p.m. The meal is already planned. You cannot imagine the amount of food they keep bringing you. The first time, we were eating everything. And were getting full by the minute. Later we were told just to taste each serving.
Good luck! The Locanda Dell'Amorosa will not disappoint you.

Hello JB, The above suggestions are both good, but
you don't say how long you are staying or what else
you intend to do in Tuscany. Location is the key.
Tuscany is big and your home base dictates the options for day trips. I know several places that
you may want to consider if you plan to spend a
week. However, most weekly rentals start on Sat.
Contact me directly if you want more input.

My wife and I spent part of our honeymoon at Relais Borgo San Felice, a small hotel in the hills outside of Siena. It is a small village, and about 2/3 of the buildings in the village have been converted into the hotel. It has its own restaurant (excellent), vineyard and a very nice swimming pool. We spend three very relaxing nights there, and it is a convenient base to explore the Chianti region and about 1/2 hour or less drive to Siena.
