Tuscany day trip

We will be staying in Florence for 5 days. After reading some of the posts, we decided to take a bus to Siena for a day. We wanted to visit some of the hill towns of Tuscany on another day. We thought we would rent a car for a day, but we are not sure where to go. Any suggestions?

Hi wsz,

A one-day car rental is about the same price as a 3-day rental.

Take a look at
http://www.sita-on-line.it/HomePage.htm

Click "Toscana"

Click "Orari"

Click "CHIANTI E VAL DI PESA"

See where you would like to go.

I would stay 2 nites in Florence and the other 3 in rural Tuscany with a car. Just a question of style.

I tried that web site and it was in Italian. My Italian isn't very good. Is there a web site in English?

You could do Volterra and San Gimignano easily by car from Florence. Both hill towns are close to each other and to Florence, so you could do one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Just me, but visiting more than 2 in a day might be rushing.

Siena is also close by, but that place deserves at least a full day. Florence has several bus connections, so you could do Siena on a non-car day.

Thanks for your input. That sounds like a good idea.
