Tuscany

My husand and I are planning a 2 week stay in Tuscany, staying in 2 separate farmhouse apts for 1 week each. My question is, is 2 weeks too long to stay in Tuscany and explore from these two home bases? I was told today by a travel agent that it will be boring to stay in this one area for 2 weeks. Help!

Has the TA actually ever spent two weeks in Tuscany? Does he/she know your travel style? You must have been interested in the area to decide to plan this trip. I say don't listen to him/her. It's your trip!

If you post the two areas you are staying in, I will bet that the folks here will give you a huge list of things to see and do.

Also, what time of year are you planning to be there?

Good lord, if that's boring then PLEASE let me be bored!

Where are the two separate farmhouses? I'm certain that all of us can help you become unbored pretty quickly once we know where.

I wasn't be bored--DH wasn't bored--my 22 year old daughter wasn't bored (and she was there for 4 months), but we're all different. I just feel sorry for this travel agent and would highly recommend she go into a less boring field.

Hi heidiu, six members of my family stayed in a villa in the countryside of Tuscany for three weeks this summer. They have been to Italy several times, in fact my DIL's mother came from a small village outside of Lucca. Believe me they were not bored. They said it was the best time they have ever had in Italy. Now for someone like my daughter who loves Rome, Venice etc., it probably would have been boring after one week. So it does depend on the person of course. But I would think since this is what you plan to do this is a visit to Italy that will work for you. And I too wonder, what is the TA experience with Italy and in particular with staying in the countryside of Tuscany.

I would be bored staying in Tuscany for that long. Sorry, blast away at me, but I would be bored. I just stayed there five nights and was ready to move on.

If you can sit back and relax at your farmhouse, you might enjoy it more than I. I'm one of those people that has to be moving around doing something all the time. I would have enjoyed Tuscany more if we had stayed inside a town. I didn't like being in the country where I had to drive for everything.

Each person is different. As someone else said, you know yourself better than the travel agent knows you. Go with what you think you will enjoy.

Two weeks in the same general area is indeed probably too much for "most" people, so your TA was not far off (despite the strong anti-TA sentiment on this board) However, much better guidance would have been to suggest one week in a central area of Tuscany and the second week in a central area of Umbira

2 weeks in Tuscany sound pretty good to me! There are so many towns to see. I don't know how anyone could find it boring.

Lucca, Volterra, San Gimignano, Florence, Siena, Montepulciano, Cortona, Pienza, Arrezzo, etc etc.

Check out this thread for some great tips for a drive in the Val d'Orcia from StuDudley.

Thank you all for this info, even the person who said it would be to long. All good to hear but I love the info from Stu. I have printed and will read. We will be staying in a Farmhouse/Villa just SE of Siena the first week and renewing/blessing our marraige vows for our 20 anniv. then moving to another farmhouse apt. just outside of Florence for the 2nd week. We are going last week of May first week of June.
