Turkey for a honeymoon
Would you suggest a honeymoon to Turkey? If so, where would you go? We have 2 weeks. Would we do one week in Turkey and one in Greece? We originally wanted to do Spain, but I'm having trouble finding available hotels. We are going in May. Any help is appreciated.

Many thanks,

Kathy

I would definitely recommend Turkey for a honeymoon. We were there last September for only a week and loved it. We only saw one small area - we took a ferry from Rhodes to Marmaris and then took a bus down the coast. But we're wanting to go back. I wouldn't advise 1 week in Turkey and 1 week in Greece. While I loved my time in Greece, Turkey was incredible.

We stayed in a small town called Kalkan for a few days. I know there were a few more luxurious properties around there - we saw one called Club Patara (I think that was the name) which was beautiful. We used their facilities (pool, etc.) a couple of times. They had these platforms built out over the ocean with a couple of deck chairs and umbrellas on them - quite cool.

We're planning to go back to Turkey to see more. It really was wonderful.

Do you have a daily budget in mind, especially in regards to prices you'd pay for hotels? I would definitely do the full 2 weeks in Turkey (and just for fun take a boat one day to Greece). I'd like be happy to help you plan an itinerary, and have some great ideas for "honeymoon" hotels that you will remember. Are you opposed to some driving (we found it incredibly easy)?

You can stay in Turkey at fine hotels for 1/2 or less than in Europe. I loved Turkey and would have liked to honeymoon there. I would do Istanbul, down the east coast to Esphesus. There you can stay in the hill above at great resort hotels with swimming pools, beautiful rooms, food, at an cost much lower than in the U.S. or Europe. I would then continue down the coast to somewhere like Marmaris and take a boat to Rhodes and spend a few days. This is a great island that can be used to sight see to Simi or other Greek southern islands.

Don't forget Cappadocia! Land of lunar landscapes!

I'll be going this summer; if I had 2 weeks, I'd spend it in Istanbul, Cappadocia and the Aegean/Mediterranean coast (which is just what I'm doing over 3 weeks). Since I can't speak from experience yet, I won't compare places-- but I'll be staying in Antalya, Kalkan and Selcuk (near Ephesus), so it should be a good range of places. I'll be staying at a place in Kalkan called the Villa Mahal which has gotten lots of good press -- and is one of my more expensive hotels at $100/night.

I wouldn't spend one week in Greece and one in Turkey; there is plenty to see in Turkey, and it's a surprisingly large country.

We are a licensed travel agency in Istanbul and specialised in HoneyMoon Packages. We recommend you to spend your honey moon in Marmaris a week at Robinson Club Maris 5*, the nicest resort in Turkey and then spend the rest in Greece. If you contact us by e-mail, we can prepare a special tour program for you, including limouisne transfers, staying at the honeymoon suites etc... The prices are really reasonable, approximately 680 USD per person, including accomodation and transfers. Maris Travel Worldwide
