TSA guidelines for items allowed in carry-on bags

I finally had time to look at the TSA website, and I am attaching this link to their list of items allowed in carry-on and checked luggage.

http://www.tsa.gov/interweb/assetlib...12_18_2003.pdf

I was very surprised by the list. Corkscrew is okay in carryon. So are knitting needles. So are nail clippers.

The list was updated in November 2003, so it isn't pre-9/11 or something.

Has anyone actually been able to carry on a corkscrew? I know I can buy one there, but I also know I'll forget, and at midnight on a Sunday I'll be in my jammies in the hotel room wanting a glass of wine and trying to pry out the cork with a plastic fork.

Does the list suprise anyone else?

Problem is, that list is just a starter -- individual airports and airlines can add in their own restrictions.

I've been carrying nailclippers (incl. the tiny file) for months now... Might try the corkscrew next time, worst case scenario is they confiscate it...

I have a crappy corkscrew that I can afford to lose if they take it. I think I'll give it a try.

Wouldn't risk it with a good one.

I was hoping to get a "Pope"ner in Rome, but I'd hate to have to check a bag just for a cheesy souvenir.

I think those items have been allowed for a long time, I know nail clippers have been (in fact, I'm not sure they ever were disallowed except by overzealous agents in the beginning).

I wouldn't worry about it -- any decent hotel will provide you with a corkscrew.

I am very sure that a corkscrew is NOT allowed. Our daughter is a flight attendant and they can't bring one on--it comes with the catering cart.
