trouble from ship to airport
Hi,
i need some help! i am debarking from the port of Civitavechhia to catch a plane at 9:30 am at Rome airport. I was going to take the train BUT i am concerned that i may not be at the airport in time. Last time we flew in the early afternoon and it took forever to check in! The earliest train leaves Civitavechhia at 6:37 am arriving at the Roma Termini at 8:14 am. But, i remember last time that we did not want to get off the train there. What I cannot remember is if Termini is closer or further from the airport from Civitavechhia. Any pearls of wisom out there?

Your flight out of Rome is too early to realistically catch. You can't depend on being able to disembark from the ship that early because of customs and immigration etc.
Assuming you get to Termini on time, I believe the train from there to FCO is about 30 minutes which has you at FCO no earlier than 9, assuming you have good connection between the trains.
Where's your 2 hour minimum check in time prior to flights?
Get a driver and pray for no traffic problems or better yet get a later flight.

Civitavecchia is actually south of the airport, both are on the coast to the west of Rome, so going in to Rome and then back out to the airport will only waste time. Also, the above poster is correct that from Rome Termini Station you have to then connect to the airport train and that takes about 27 minutes or so, so if your earliest arrive into Termini is 8:15 am you won’t make it to FCO until 9 am; and there is no way you can make your flight..... You have to be at the airport AT LEAST 2 hours before your flight, and for FCO, I think that 2.5 hours is better for those morning US-bound flights, as security is extremely tight.
I agree on taking a taxi or a car, the trip is only about 45 minutes and should not be terribly expensive. I think the cruise company should be able to give you an estimate of the taxi cost. There may even be bus service between Civitavecchia and the airport, you might Google for this or try a guidebook.
I actually think you might have an issue generally with such an early flight; is the ship docking the night before, or not until that morning? If that morning, can you really be off the ship by 6:30 am? You would need to be in a taxi by that time, IMO to get to FCO in time for check-in for a 9:30 flight.
Also, by "Rome airport" we are all assuming you mean Fumicino airport (Da Vinci) and not Ciampino, which is not even serviced by a train....

Civitavecchia is north of Fiumicino, not south, but both are on the coast.
If your ship is arriving that morning, you need to book a later flight. If your ship arrives the day before, you should stay nearer the airport, or pay for a taxi.

This sounds like a recipe for disaster.
At what time is your ship supposed to arrive that morning??? Even if it gets there very early it doesn't mean that you could debark immediately. The only way you could take this flight is if your ship arrives the night prior. Even with that , the only way to do this I think would be with a private car.

That connection is not even remotely possible if you are disembarking the same morning as your flight. I doubt that you will even be able to leave the ship before 7am if it is docking that morning, and that might be optimistic.
