Trouble booking on Trenitalia
Hi
I have been trying to book tickets on trenitalia.com for my travel from Rome to Venice on the 1st of may.I can't seem to buy tickets..is it because they may have been sold out?Is it a good idea to buy them in advance and also how difficult is it to buy tickets in the station...are they readily available?

$57 $82
Many folks have trouble using the site - a common enquiry on this forum! You can buy tickets at the station but this often means a long wait in line in places like Rome Termini. You could buy these tickets thru RailEurope for $57 in second class and $82 in second class one way Rome-Venice and make seat reservations for $15 (extra) for travel on EuroStar Italia trains - the premier trains you should take between these two cities. so would be about $72 Rome-Venice on Eurostar trains - compare this to what regular tickets cost in Italy and see if the savings is worthwile to wait and what, for some folks, can be a considerable inconvenience waiting in line. may 1 is a holiday in most of Europe so trains may be more crowded on that day, i don't really know but there are about hourly trains so lots to chose from. People on this forum do succeed somehow in getting tickets online so i'm sure someone will enlighten us how to navigate this frustrating web site (trenitalia.com). For Rail Europe tickets contact BETS: 800-441-9413.

Be aware that May 1st is a national holiday in most European countries so there will be alot of people on the move that weekend. The holiday may even be celebrated on May 2nd as a day off.
As to booking in advance, because you are trying to travel on that date, you most definitely should book ahead.
As booking on Trenitalia.com, I'm sorry I can't help you as I"ve never booked through them. I always just checked the schedule online and arrived at the trainstation before departure and bought my tickets then.

Thanks for all the information. Was checking on RailEurope and the prices for the tickets are 57 same as trenitalia. But there is an option of 15$ as a reservation fee and a railprotection plan of 10$.Would i be a taking a chance by buying a ticket without reservation?
However there seems to be no reservation fee on trenitalia.I found out that tickets can be booked only 60 days before a trip on trenitalia.com

I just booked 13 tiks for March on Trentalia.com. Rome to Florence. Just read it carefully and pick your seat so you can be together. It was no problem and they email you a voucher to show to get on, and it was $14 cheaper than raileurope.(1st class)
We've been to many of the large Italian cities and their train and bus stations. We find them totally overwhelming and intimidating unless you can read Italian. I"M booking and buying as much as possible before we get there.Hope that helps.
Have FUN
