Hi tripgirl,

I felt I had to tell you that we loved your trip report as we know the area so well from our various holidays. We stayed at the Quisi and loved it - great suite and superb staff.

I was intrigued to learn that the Bellevue has changed as we will be there in about 10 days time. I feel it is worth mentioning that there is no pool at the hotel. We have stayed at various hotels in Sorrento but the BS is our favourite.

Now we are getting excited about our trip and checking the web cam daily.

Wow, I could use your organizing skills in my everyday life. Great report, brought back memories of the beautiful Amalfi Coast and Capri.

thank you both for your lovely comments.

Yes, the BS has no pool, thanks for mentioning it as I did not in my report. It was not important to me, but would be important especially for families.

You are going to love the BS as it remodels. What kind of a room did you reserve? Only the suites so far have the modern, all the other rooms are still the same.

Thanks for the comments on my organizational skills; I guess we all get blessed with something!!!

For what it's worth, we had a lovely time at the Bellevue Syrene a couple of years ago (apparently prior to all the renovations). My only gripe: Weak coffee at breakfast. Ordered espresso instead.

Jean,

I'm not a coffee drinker at all, so was not sure if the coffee is still weak for those who do.

But the breakfast buffet was plentiful! Lots of breads and whole grain ones too. I had a luscious whole wheat croissant gently filled with apples. There are made to order omelettes, losts of fruits and cereal, yogurt, juices, meats, etc. The breakfast choices were enough.

I did not ask Simona if Don Giovanni's is going to be renovated as it fits in the old style of the hotel. Either way, we found the room to very plesant with great views of the Bay first thing in the morning!

Thanks Tripgirl. We are going to be in Positano for 7 days in June. I've been planning for months. My hubby and I are going with my sister, her two teenagers, and my brother and his teenager. I think my blond nieces are going to have quite a time if the italian boys look like Luca. I've been debating whether the hubby and I should spend a night on Capri without everyone else. I think we will.
I've really enjoyed reading about your trip. Thanks for sharing!

A:
Simona did tell me that not all the suites were redone, so I am not sure if 309 is indeed modern or the same as it was.

In any event, go see some of the redone suites on your floor, 305 and 306 are examples and let me know what you think.

Since you've been there before you might prefer the old style, but in any event, let me know what you think. I realize that not everyone likes modern, but it's more to our style as my entire house is modern.

Have wonderful time and ask to meet the manager, Simona Guida, if you don't know her already. She is a delightful person

L: STAY on capri, with or without the gang! You must to get a sense of it. You will love it and I highly recommend properties on Via Tragara
Have a wonderful time!

Can't wait for the photos! When I was on a day tour in Tahiti most all of my photos were of my Islander tourguide. I had to laugh when I got the photos developed and my family was in the background and he was in focus!

Enjoyed your report!

Not sure if you are still checking this thread tripgirl...but my soon to be wife and I are headed to the Amalfi Coast for our honeymoon and are leaving from DC. What did you do for your flight? I am seeing some CRAZY layovers and don't want to spend 20+ hours traveling. I am even willing to spend a little more to get there sooner. Any help is much appreciated!

We are heading over in October. GREAT report. I think we are more the cafe and drinks type (all day long) than much sightseeing but your vacation sounds amazing and I have jotted down some must-see items!

Thanks

Tripgirl....also, any chance you can refer a good travel agent? My plan right now is DC to Rome (1 night or not depending on arrival), then to Capri for 2-3 nights, then Positano for 5-6 nights with a day possibly in Rovella, maybe 2. I would appreciate any help you can provide as I am in over my head on coordinating this honeymoon due to all of the little variables involved. Thank you

Hey Jeremy,
I'm not tripgirl (of course) but if you have some time I don't think you need a tour agent. I've planned my honeymoon for early September to the same places.

Flights - Go into either Rome or Naples. From your earlier post you want to travel on Oct 11 and Oct 21. According to Expedia there are no direct flights from IAD to FCO. Maybe check different airports and alter your trip (fly into NY for a day or two). Otherwise you are stuck.

Go to Tripadvisor.com and check hotels for Rome, Capri, and Positano or Ravello to find ones that you like. Read all the reviews with a grain of salt. You can sort by location and price.

You can take the train from Rome to Naples and catch a ferry to Capri. Search this forum for how to do that.

You can take the ferry from Capri to Positano or Amalfi (bus/taxi to Ravello).

This forum has lots of day trip ideas / restaurant recommedations / hotel recommendations.

Spend some time searching and figuring out what you know and what you need to find out and then you can ask some specific questions.

I've found it very enjoyable to plan our trip and I hope to feel very knowledgable once we get to Rome and Positano.

Let me know if I can help.

Thanks saps....I had already kind of taken that advice before the Grand Hotel Quisisana for three nights. Basically, get to Rome on the morning of the 11th (I prefer to fly out of National, but BWI also works so I have options) and head straight to Capri. Then on the 14th to Positano so I am open to hotel OR villa recomendations for 5 or 6 nights, then to Rome for a day/night before flying home.

Thanks for your help, planning this is fun....as you can see from my engagement thread, I am a big fan of planning things for her..."New York to get engaged" in the US talk section.

Thanks again!

What is your budget for Positano per night? I think mid Oct starts to be low season so you might get some good rates.

We are staying at the Marincanto.

When we get to Rome we are taking a private driver to Positano (just didn't want to deal with trains after flying from the west coast) and on the way back we will take the ES Train. The driver is going to be great but it is $$$ (400E).

saps...you are right, it is the low season, just the start of it. I was looking at a villa in Positano for the week but the dates available don't quite work out. I have a suite at the Casa Quisisana in Capri for three nights so I got that taken care of already. Just need to decide between hotel and villa in Positano. We definitely prefer being right in the action, but also want a beach within a short walk. Not much for the rural settings if you have any suggestions. I need to look into transportation from Rome. Definitely will take the train back but want something nice and fun for the first leg. Euro 400 does seem expensive. Is it a limo with champagne or anything like that?

Thanks
