Trip to Northern Croatia Starting in Venice
We are looking into a trip of Northern Croatia (the coast mostly) starting Venice. We did the southern part in 2007 and loved it. Has anyone started in Venice, taken the ferry over or the bus to northern Croatia? The good, the bad, the ugly? What do you recommend, what would you change? Plan to go in September, probably stay a week or a bit longer. Thanks everyone!

I LOVE northern Croatia. In fact, I prefer it to the south generally speaking. We recently bought a house in Istria! We've done the Venice to Croatia route and love it. Normally we rent a car in Venice and drive as we really get off the tourist path.
September is a wonderful time to go - you may want to plan for longer than a week! Istria is just stunning.
The Zagorje area is wonderful and less touristed than other parts of the country. It has some great castles.
The northeast part of Croatia reminds me of Austria - lots of pastoral rolling green hills - lovely.
