trip to England

Our daughter is getting married in Birmingham, England the end of May. We have five days after the wedding for sightseeing. We are considering staying in Bath and maybe Oxford. does anyone have any good ideas regarding lodging? Something nice with a private bath. Also, we will be driving. Any ideas for good day trips from these places?

Woodstock is a good base for seeing the region. Look at The Feathers and The Bear for lodging.

What is your budget?? Can't make useful suggestions w/o knowing how much you want to spend.

Woodstock is fine - but what sort of experience do you want? - a "chocolate box" pretty Cotswold village, or in the city of Oxford, or ???

BTW - having a car is a serious pain in Oxford. It generally would be better to stay elsewhere and then use the Park & Ride lots on the outskirts when you want to visit the city.

By some measures, Oxford and Bath are the two most expensive cities in london for hotels (yup. Pricier than London).

So we really need to have an idea of your budget.

Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay books and website are highly respected. You can choose from B&Bs, inns and hotels. See :
http://www.sawdays.co.uk/

From Bath it's possible to visit the American Museum, Longleat, Stourhead, Wells, Glastonbury, Cheltenham, Salisbury, Avebury and Stonehenge.

From Oxford you can visit the Cotswolds, Warwick Castle, Stratford-upon-Avon and Cheltenham.

I forgot to say that Blenheim Palace is at Woodstock, and is handy for Oxford.
