Great report - so well laid out, full of useful information and easy to follow. As an English prof - did you get to look into any of the many sites and attractions in Dublin centered around Irish writers?

SusanP--Bull & Castle is on Lord Edward street, opposite Christ Church Cathedra. Have a great trip!
DrToonz--Thank you. I tried to organnize the information in a way that would have been most helpful to *me* when I was planning our trip, so I'm glad to hear it worked!
pastyp--Thank you! We did get to visit many lit-related sites. It was all wonderful. I knew Ireland was going to be an inspiring place because of all the incredible writing that it has inspired, but I didn't understand just how incredible it is until I was actually there. I can't wait to return.

thetravellers--I would love to spend a month in Ireland. I can't really tell you what is too long for you, though.
My husband has a two week threshold when it comes to vacations. If we're going somewhere for a specific purpose (a bit of research, to teach a class, etc.) then he can stay much longer. But for whatever reason, when we're just vacationing, he hits the wall at two weeks.
If you post your itinerary on the forums people will be more than happy to help you out. I can't tell you how much I value all of the feedback I received from this forum. Everyone here is really great.

They do run on Sunday, you can purchase tickets on the bus and they are also available at sales offices

Thanks so much for posting this! I am planning our September trip now, and was narrowing down our itinerary -- I had just concluded we'd do dublin-dingle-galway, so this is extremely helpful. We'll be traveling with two kids (1.5 and 6 years) so may have to cut down on the driving, but am guessing there's lots of room and places to run about?
If anyone has extra tips on activities/advice for kids and families in Dublin, Dingle, or Galway, I'm all ears...

losangelesred--I'm glad you found this helpful!
There are so many places to pull over and run about, definitely. I think it would be a lot of fun to explore different landscapes with the kiddos, too.
Have a great trip! Have you posted a thread asking for input on your itinerary? The Fodorites are amazing, you'll get a lot of great feedback if you do.

So glad someone brought this post up again.
Haven17---I loved going back to Dingle with your photos. The photo of the trees with the cloudy sky outside of Greenmount House was so interesting. We really enjoyed our stay with John & Mary and will return there again one day.
The photo of the feet hanging over Brandon Point gave me the creeps. I'm not big on heights and I walked up the hill next to the fence without looking over it, mostly just watching my step. The view from the top was stunning, but I did stand back from the edge. When MDH showed me the photos and I saw how far down it was and how close to the edge I was next to that fence I couldn't believe it---good thing I didn't look down.
Anyway, Haven, thanks again for the many tips. It really helped in our planning. We toured the West Coast in Sept. 2011. It was such fun we returned to Ireland to do the middle, north to south, in May 2012.
losangelesred----here's our trip report of the west coast in Sept. 2011.

There are photos in the above TR and here is a fast, musical slideshow. The Dingle Peninsula was the highlight of our trip.
