Hi
Thanks so much! Having never been to Italy it is hard to decide how to schedule things. Until I posted my topic I didn't realize the lakes were so far away. So it does look like we will save Bellagio for another trip (hopefully not too far off in the future!)

We also are not really museum people, although I would like to see one or two of the great ones just because it seems like something we really have to do being in Italy, but that is not at the top of our list.

It is great that people share their experiences, it is definately helping my planning. If you don't mind I may have more questions as I get further along.

Thanks!

Hello, nbs_mjs,
First and foremost...Congratulations! I found your thread fantastic and I have to say it is like god sent. My fiance and I are currently planning our 2 week honeymoon to Italy beginning the 2nd week in October 2005. We have gone though so many different itineraries and the last one I came up with was to fly into Rome, stay there for 2 nights, then head to Venice for 2 nights, then to Florence for 3, then to Positano for 3,then head back to Rome for one more night and fly back to the states the next day. Many told us this was way too mcuh to cover in 12days, so we were going to nix Venice, but then EVERYONE said it is the most Romantic place and you have to go. So we were toying with whether to go or not go. Your itinerary is very similar to ours and it looks like it can be done and we will still have a wonderful time. I have printed out ALL of the messages to this posting and will reference and use as we continue to plan the honeymoon. A lot of my questions were answered, but I did have some others. What was the cost for the driver to take you from Naples to Positano and then from Positano to Rome? I think that's a great idea. (btw thanks for the website)As for hotels, we have not booked them yet but the plan is to stay at the De La Ville Intercontinental In Rome, Venice- The Bauer, Florence, Sofitel Firenze, and Positano I'm torn between Villa Rosa, Albergo Miramare, and Poseidon. Any thoughts or experiences anyone can share would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for a great report on your honeymoon!

Hi Riz,

I'm so glad that my trip report has been helpful. I hope you have a fantastic wedding and honeymoon!

The price for the driver from naples to positano and positano to rome was 350 euro total.

In terms of positano hotels, I really didn't get to see the villa rosa or the miramare. From doing my research last year, I seem to recall the villa rosa was higher up and less accessible to the main road (but i could be wrong). Also i think the miramare is lower down (closer to the beach). We really liked the poseidon for a few reasons:

1. it was half way up and therefore we could wind our way up and down the main road and shop in all the little stores as we went to and from the beach. (it also ended up being close to our favorite restaurant, the meditaraneo)-- being half way up the cliff/hill meant that our views were amazing (truly amazing) but our walk down to the beach was totally do-able.

2. it was directly accessible to the main road -- our driver just dropped us off at the hotel and we didn't have to drag the luggage up or down any stairs.

3. it had a pool and therefore we could just hang there if we wanted to in the afternoons as opposed to going to the beach.

4. another advantage we actually didn't end up using is that the poseidon has a spa and you can get a massage, etc...

overall, i think if we went back to positano, we would just go back to the poseidon!

Let me know if you have other questions.

Mille Grazie for a wonderful report! We are planning our trip to Italy with a similar itinerary in early May 2006. However, we want to start our trip in Venice because we said when we got married we would go to Venice on our 10th anniversary. We also want to meet friends in Bellagio after Venice and my DH wants to go to Tuscany and I want to go to Positano (thanks to the movie Under the Tuscan Sun). Is this insane? If you are still reading this thread, could you help us figure out how to get from Venice and then on to Bellagio, Tuscany, and Positano. I have wondered if we should skip Positano and go another time. This is a tall order I know but I would be most in your debt if you could make some comments. Thanks so much!

Hi Daisypups, may I suggest you start your own thread and include important info in the title such as "Anniversary trip to Italy and need info" or some such thing.

I think you will get so many more responses then on this thread which started in August 2004.

And have fun planning your trip. What a beautiful anniversary you will have. Venice is perfect for romance!

How long does it take to get from Florence to Positano (or at least from Florence to Naples)?
Thanks!
