d_himan, just read your comments about our trip report. Great to know that it is helping people 5-6 years after I wrote it. Spain always brings back nostalgic memories for us. It was one of our most enjoyable vacations.

Hello indiancouple,

My sister and I are planning a 13 nights trip to Spain in the second half of September, and I can't tell you how much your fantastic report has helped us plan our trip - thank you!

Here's what we are planning:
Barcelona: 4 nights
Granada: 1 night (Barcelona-Granada flight already booked)
Sevilla: 5 nights with day trip to Cordona
Madrid: 4 nights with day trip to Toledo

We are wondering if we should squeeze in a day at Malaga or just stay an extra day at Granada instead of spending 4.5 days in Sevilla. What would you suggest?

And can we do Malaga as a day trip from Granda or Sevilla or would you recommend we spend the night there?

The day time tickets to Alhambra are already sold out, and the 2 days night and day tickets are only available. Do we miss anything if we see the Nasrid palace only at night?

Muchas gracias!
Neha

if you don't mind my having my two penn'oth Neha, I think that you are short of a day in Granada.

if you are flying in one day and heading to Seville the next, you really won't have time for anything, and the town itself is worth a look, IMO.

<<The day time tickets to Alhambra are already sold out, and the 2 days night and day tickets are only available. Do we miss anything if we see the Nasrid palace only at night?>>

this had me a bit puzzled "and the two days night and day tickets are only available" - if you mean they only have night-time tickets, then grab them - the palaces are very beautiful at night and they allow far fewer people in so it's well worth it.

as for the rest of the Alhambra, well you don't really get to see it at the night visit, so it is that you are missing by not going in the day, not the Nasrid palaces. Are day tickets to the gardens/Generalife still available? they would definitely still be worth getting, IMO. The Generalife gardens were really the highlight of our trip for me.

Sorry for not noticing this post earlier. Great to see a trip report of 2007 still being used now !

I agree with annhig that you need to add a day in Granada. We had spent only 1 night in Granada, and had regretted it. Certainly add a day here. If time permits, you can make a day trip to Nerja and Nerja cuevo from Granada.

Would not recommend making a day trip to Malaga in the limited time you have available. Actually, Malaga is a great base station for travelling around southern Spain to places like Ronda, Nerja, etc (although it is a lovely town in its own right too). But you can cover Ronda from Seville also, and cover Nerja from Granada.

If I were you, I would just add a day in Granada, and subtract a day from Madrid. I would not reduce time in Seville, as you will spend a full day going to Cordoba, and perhaps another full day to Ronda. Seville itself deserves a full 3 days atleast.

In my opinion, 3 days is enough in Madrid (including a day trip to Toledo).

As far as Alhambra tickets are concerned, grab whatever you can get online. Also, a certain percentage of day tickets are reserved for sale on the day of visit only. For this you need to queue up very early in the morning at the ticket counter, and you should get entry. I am told that Nasrid Palace is best seen at night, although I could not do that. I saw everything during the day. It would be a shame to go to Granada and not see the Alhambra.
