Whitey--
No wonder you got such a great fare; you signed on 6 months ago. It used to be that the Lucky Fares were great opportunities for those who wanted to take a last minute trip when the airline was trying to fill empty seats at the last minute (in the month or so before departure). I just tried again and the fares I was getting for about 8 weeks from now were in the $1200 range from MSP to Paris. In years past I booked through Lucky Fares and found midsummer fares for around $400 to Frankfurt. By the way, don't worry about Icelandair. It is my favorite airline and we have had nothing but good esperiences with them. We live in the midwest and what I like the most is that we fly from MSP to Rekayvik which is about a 5 to 6 hour flight. By that time I am good and ready to get off the plane, walk around a bit and use a real bathroom. They have their flights scheduled so that passengers just have time to take a nice stroll through the terminal, stretch their legs, use the bathrooms and then get back on the plane for another 4 or 5 hours. I like that. I suppose it is because there are almost no direct flights to Europe from our airport unless we want to pay the premium fare to Amsterdam via our local hub airline Northwest.

Hi,
You might look at wholesaler airfares to Europe, too. They are bulk airfares instead of published fares which you get from the airlines. Also, be careful of some of these fare websites - they don't always have unbiased information.
Best Regards,
Julia

I just used Orbitz to book an open jaw flight: Chicago to Paris to Dublin to Chicago and they were $300 cheaper than anyone else when I got them. Don't be afraid to click on some of the expensive ones. I clicked on one for $750 and the price had dropped to $540. It also lets you mix and match flights, which was convenient.
Hope this helps,
Heather

Here's a new airfare blog that just started. They primarily have info. for the New York city area, but I think they also have other cities as well. (The info. below the link isn't an advertisement. It's just an explanation of the blog that someone sent to me.)
http://travelguy.blog.com/
Here's the deal: Every day, airlines lower a few, or a few hundred, fares to unbelievably low levels. No one knows why. The airlines won't talk about it, and they don't advertise them. Fares like JFK to Venice, Italy for $138 RT....in August. Or New York to Honolulu to for $298 RT. Or Newark to LA for $88 RT. These aren't typos...they're real examples of recent "hidden" fare sales.
Fares are listed here only if they are historically or unusually low; usually, only one or two airlines are offering them and the other airlines are charging much more, or these cheap fares have fewer restrictions than normal. These air fares are often short-lived, unadvertised special deals that could disappear at any moment, so check this site frequently and act fast if you see a good fare; and accept our apologies if you don't catch the fare before the airline discontinues it.

>>Here's the deal: Every day, airlines lower a few, or a few hundred, fares to unbelievably low levels. No one knows why.
This happened to me. I had been searching for PHL-CDG for June for months, and couldn't find anything under $1000, with most direct flights being closer to $1200.
Then one evening I spotted a Delta fare for $475+. Direct flight. I bought it from the Delta site, but it was also on Orbitz and some other places. It was there the next day too, but then it vanished and I haven't seen anything close since.
