Trenitalia Saver Pass or not?
My itinerary includes Milan- Venice, Venice Genoa, Genoa- Monterosso, Monterosso-Rome.
to be completed within two weeks.
Should I get a saver pass that costs 149 Euros for two people or try getting individual tickets?
Any thoughts?
As a senior, though not an Italian, can I get a senior discount on Trenitalia?
I have been trying to work Trenitalia's site without much success.
Thanks.

what Saverpass is this? Italian Passes cost way more than that i thought - about $170 p.p. thru RailEurope and didn't know trenitalia charges any less?
Where can i get this special pass? At that price a great deal - at $170 p.p. for 3 days of travel plus $20/day not a good deal for you IMO

Well part was the senior thing so now I know I can't get a senior rate.
Can I book a reserved seat from Milan to Venice now online if I join?
Or should I wait til I get to Italy and buy the Saver pass to save a few bucks but risk not getting a seat at all? Should I be worried to book it on the 6th when I arrive into Malpensa?
I'm scheduled to be in Venice July 7

there will be no problem getting seats on any of these routes which have trains hourly or more. No problem at all.
Still like to know where i can buy a Saverpass for two for 149 euros - could that be per person? which would make it more expensive than buying in US?
I'd like to know because i regularly advise folks here not to buy the Italian railpass because it's rarely economical - but at that price it certainly is.
thanks

Well that price is per person i believe though it doesn't say it it should
it's a Saverpass for two or more names on one pass but it's per person not for the two - i'm fairly certain but could be wrong.
But prices always match the US dollar prices for passes thru RailEurope and a 4 day pass saver here would cost $188
vs 149 euros = $207 - so if you think you need a pass buy it here and save about $40 total - RailEurope would charge a $15 mailing fee but agents like BETS (www.budgeteuropetravel.com; 800-441-2387) who i always recommend would not charge RE's mailing fee unless real rush order. But in any case at even at $188 p.p. point point tickets, which you can book now on trenitalia.com to be guaranteed a seat would be significantly cheaper - especially since with a pass you still must pay extra for seat reservations of between 5 and 15 euros, and these are included in trenitalia.com pricing.

Re-checking trenitalia it must be per person because a one-person 4-day individual pass costs euro 172 or so and the saver costs 149 - no way could the saverpass cost 149 for two people than a single pass 172 for one - it must be 149 p.p. and then you can forget about the pass.

The Rick Steve's website has really good information about rail passes.
Plus it has a chart that will help you figure out how much point to point will cost vs a pass.
Sometimes a pass is a good deal. Other times, with all the supplements and reservation fees, it isn't.
