Travelling to Luxembourg City by Car
We hope to travel from Cochem to Luxembourg and Trier by car in September. I understand from posts that I have read that car parking in the city is a challenge. Can anyone advise where we should leave our car then either walk or take another form of transportation to get into the old town to see what anyone suggests is a must.

I think you can park for a nominal fee at the Luxembourg City train station.
You might park for free in one of the small towns like Diekirch that has a direct train connection to Luxembourg City, then take the train into the city. I have not driven in Luxembourg - only taken the buses and trains, so I don't know whether this is worth doing, whether it's easy or hard (or expensive) to drive into Luxembourg City or not. The trains/buses within the country are ridiculously cheap; you can buy a day pass for the whole country (includes city buses and rural trains and buses) for 4 Euros per person.
You could walk from the Luxembourg City train station into the center of town - maybe a 15-20 min walk - or take a local bus, which would be covered with the day pass. I stayed near the train station and had no trouble walking into town but took the bus a few times too. Your smart phone with Google Maps can probably navigate the bus system.

My husband and I drove from Metz to Luxembourg City in December. We had GPS that identified lots of parking lots in the center of town. We had no problem parking. It's a beautiful city and well worth a trip. We checked out the Christmas market, some shops, had lunch and then continued on to Strasbourg.

No, challenge does not mean 5 to 10 minutes to find a parking spot. We have never driven in Germany before and not familiar with the highways leading into Luxembourg. I was just hoping someone that has driven this route coming from Cochem previously could guide us to a parking lot either outside the city or inside the city. From previous posts, as mentioned previously, comments have been that available parking spots in Luxembourg are difficult to find.

It is a few years back but we drove to Luxembourg and used the Park and Ride system. I cannot remember exactly which one we used but it was clearly marked from the the main routes and was easy to use. All the Park and Rides should be in your GPS anyway.
