Travelling from Rome to Positano

Any suggestions for a car service to take me, my husband, mother-in-law, and two babies from Rome to Positano? I received what seemed like a fair quote from Italy Limousine (which I'll share once I'm clear on what they're offering). I'm just wondering what others have done. I don't think I want to take the train because it seems like it will be too much schlepping with two babies in strollers and three large suitcases.

As an aside, after much deliberation we decided to stay at the Punta Regina so I'll let you all know what that's like when we get back.

Thanks!

Jacquie - Try these for a quote:

- Positano-based:

www.positanocarservice.com
www.flaviogioia.com
www.limocarservice.net
www.benvenutolimos.com (Praiano)

- Sorrento-based:

www.tourofitaly.com
www.francescomarrapese.com
www.cuomonet.it
www.seesorrento.com
www.sorrento.it

Quotes can vary considerably (- € 280-400+)- so it's best to shop around ...

If you want to cut costs you could get the train to Naples (Napoli Centrale) - and arrange for a car from there to Positano (- about € 90-100).

Hope this helps ...

Steve

P.S. There is also a bus service between Rome and Positano in high season ...

What prices were you quoted for the car service from Rome to Positano. We are looking to do the same. The hotel can set this up for us but I want to make sure we are getting an okay deal through them

Thanks for the replies.
Our hotel quoted us 500 Euros. Italy Limousine quoted us 365 (for 3 adults and two babies) which I thought sounded pretty good. I haven't asked for quotes from other companies yet.

Also, is it customary to tip the driver? In the US it would be but I wasn't sure if it was in Italy. If so, any suggested percentages?

Thanks!

One more question...what is the fast train that goes between Rome and Naples and what is the web site to look up its schedule?

Thanks!

JacquieK -

Go to trenitalia.com - and click on the English link.

We used Francesco Marrapese for our daytrip on Amalfi Coast from our hotel in Positano and were very pleased with his service. His web address is given above.

Francesco gets a very good review, but I really like his former boss, Renato Cuomo at cuomonet.it

We just used Francesco to drive us from Sorrento to Rome. For 4 of us it was 380 Euros for the door to door drive.

Hope that helps.

I was surprised to see how inexpensive the train was from Rome to Naples. 1st class on the Eurostar was 32.50 Euros. Much cheaper when looking at the other options...Still, I think with two babies and a bunch of luggage, all the schlepping involved will not be worth the savings.

'Much cheaper when looking at the other options'

The cheapest option is the Rome-Positano bus.
Fare: approx € 18

Yep - we definitely opted for the easy way out. Was our bug splurge of the trip. With the luggage and the kids we just did not feel like shlepping everything on the trains.

No regrets - was a nice easy drive.
