Travelling from Rome to Cinque Terre or vice versa
Happy New Year everyone. My wife and I are hoping to travel to Rome and Cinque Terre this summer as these are two areas of Italy we have yet to see...so, some questions!

1. How long would it take to travel via train to Cinque Terre from Rome?
2. If possible, should I try to fly into Rome and then out of Milan (or vice versa)since Milan is closer to Cinque Terre?

Thanks everyone!
cheers,
Ralph

It takes around 5 hrs from Cinque Terre to Rome; you can find an on-line schedule on the site http://www.trenitalia.com ;the main station near Cinque Terre area is La Spezia Centrale. On the on-line schedule you can directly check the timetable to one of the 5 towns: Manarola, Riomaggiore, Corniglia, Vernazza, Monterosso. see the difference of time between Milan and Rome and choose consequently the airport to fly in/out.
Last: you can have a look at www.baranin.com/cinqueterre for more information
Bye.
Andrea Somovigo
Manarola-Cinque Terre-

Dear Mr Masset,

The reference library of a city near you may have the Thomas Cook European timetable. Table 610 shows that Milan Central station to La Spezia takes 3 or 3¼ hours, while Rome Termini to La Spezia takes just the same time, since trains are faster.

Please write if I can help further. Welcome to Europe.

Ben Haines, London
Papillon

I'd be interested in where you rented an apartment in the Cinque Terre. I am researching for a trip in the fall (5 women), and we want an apartment for five nights.

Ralph: We took the train from Roma to La Spezia and it was 4 hours.

Jacqueline - Most trains take about 2.5 hours to Riomaggiore, for example.
A little longer to Vernazza, the nicest of the Cinque Terre I believe.

But you need to choose your train carefully, - some take over 3 hours, depending on connection at La Spezia.

Hope this helps ...

Steve
