Traveling through Galway during races
Hello everyone!
I was going to travel from Shannon through Galway to Spiddal on July 29th in the morning/early afternoon. However, there are rumors that traffic will be horrible and it will take hours instead of the hour and a half that it should. Is this true? Do you recommend I not make the trip or is there a better route to take? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!!

Yes hard work. If you take a left at Oranmore on the R338 and head into the city down Renmore and college road you will/should miss the bulk of race day traffic. Of course all the locals will be heading that way as well so it could still be busy.

If you are travelling early, you should not have a problem - by early, I mean before 10.30am travelling through Galway. Traffic on a Sunday morning in Galway will be light - the race festival on Sunday will not start until around lunch-time.
the later you leave it after 10.30, then you will begin to hit tailbacks - particularly if it is a sunny day (it will mean that a lot of cars will be heading out to Salthill to the Prom and beach too)
