We are planning a trip to Europe (from the U.S.) and plan to be there more than 30 days. Do we need more than passports?

If you are US citizens, most countries in urope will allow you to visit for up to 90 days without a visa.

What's your itinerary?

This is SUCH a big question if you really are a 'field trip co-ordinator'!

If you are responsible for others, there is health insurance for any age and papers for 'in loco parentis' decisions for those under age, just for starters. And rules vary by country...Europe is a big place with variations in what is required.

There is info available here from those who have led such trips, me included with schooltrips, but if you are planning a trip of this duration with more than immediate friends or family, there are much better sources, like professional travel planners, for starters.

How many more days than 30?

You can stay up to 90 on your passport alone.

How long also depends which countries. Not all of Europe is in the Schengen zone so actually you can stay longer than 90 days if you choose your countries carefully.

My experience is that standard insurance policies are for trips up to 30 days. You will have to seek specialist policies (and pay higher fees ) for periods in excess of this

So far, we are staying a week on the southern coast of Spain and one in the country north of London.
I'm waiting to hear back from two establishments for five days in Rome and three in Florence.

We hope to add on a few days in London and a few in Paris.

LOL! Fortunately, this trip is just for me and my husband and 18 year old son.

I've coordinated two trips for a group of teens. We've done five days in Washington, DC and five in Kentucky and Ohio. At one point, we considered taking this group to Europe, but it wasn't financially feasible for most of them.

We're wondering why so many airlines required you to return within 30 days.

They don't require you to return w/o 30 days. But that is usually a requirement to get a <u>discount</u> fare. You can book tickets for just about any length of time - just not a cheap one.
