Traveling between Amsterdam and Prague

Hello
We will be in Amsterdam for 5 days and then Prague for 4. Can anyone suggest how to get from one place to the other.

Thank You

Train, bus or fly. Flying would be quicker, as it takes around 10-11 hours, and a couple of changes, by train, and 13 hours and up by bus.

If you want to cut a day off each you could easily stop by trainfor a few days somewhere like Rothenburg or Nurnberg or Munich - for lots on trains check www.bahn.de/en - German Railways official site; www.seat61.com; BETS-European Rail Experts and www.ricksteves.com.

Too bad the Amsterdam-Prague overnight train was scrubbed recently or could have been neat.

It was scrubbed years ago Pal. There is talk of new overnight trains, in an alliance with Austrian railways, but so far only talk.

Because nobody wants to do that and it doesn't make sense economically.

Well the idea is to get more European journeys made by train rather than plane, for the sake of the envirnoment. Sleepers then become an attractive option for covering a lot of ground.

Not sure sleepers with just two or one persons would be much better than flying but if put 4-6 people in a couchette economy p.p. would be much higher. But anyway, Prague is too far from Amsterdam to be viable - but yes for shorter routes like Amsterdam-Berlin or Amsterdam-Munich, etc. yes.

A sleeper train would hold more than a plane with less of a carbon footprint. They are aiming at younger people than most Fodorites. Prague is an ideal sleeper destinnation. It will be interesting to see if anything comes of the talks.

I think they'll have to 'sleep on' that idea for a long while. With that over and out.

A flight is 1h30min, driving is about 9h, train is minimum 10h 30min and bus is minimum 12h.

Prices for flights can change drastically, depending on the day of travel and the day of booking, but if time is an important factor for you, you will probably want to fly. EasyJet, Czech Airlines and Smartwings offer direct flights and might have interesting prices. KLM offers direct flights as well, but they are usually more expensive.

I find the search engine Travelinho.com very useful to get an overview of all possibilities.

Hope it helps.

For people who like to read studies:

Is the end near for Europe’s passenger night trains?

Pressure on European railway companies through the EU has led to night trains being seen as desirable again. Dutch and German railways are in talks to bring back the Amsterdam - Berlin night service in some way. Amsterdam - Copenhagen would also be ideal, btw

With so little time, strongly recommend flying. Did this via train once and it was looong.

I think they'll be back. Recently a lot of articles in the papers about short haul european flights, how damaging they are to the environment, and how a good long distance train system, including night trains, could replace most of this. IF freight transport isn't given the priority it has now so trains can be more frequent and IF fares come down. The EC has now taken this on.

Amsterdam-Berlin in 6h22 from €39.90 with things to see on the way: https://www.seat61.com/trains-and-ro...n-by-train.htm

Berlin-Prague in 4h28 from €19.90 with great scenery between Dresden and Prague along the River Elbe with a proper waiter-service restaurant car: https://www.seat61.com/trains-and-ro...e-by-train.htm

City centre to city centre, no airports, no flights, no hassle. Chill-out time...

And you get to see a bit of Berlin as you pass through: The Reichstag is just 10 min walk from the station, the Brandenburg Gate just 15 minutes.
