Traveling around Paris/ to/from airport

What is your suggestion when it comes to traveling from CDG to an Airbnb located near the Eiffel tower.
Also- what is the best way to travel to Versailles and around the city.
Thank you very much

I'll get the warning about an illegal rental out of the way. You can take a cab for 55E. You can find out the metro stop near the possibly illegal rental and take the RER.
The best way to travel around the city is via metro and bus.
You can take the RER to Versailles. How long will you be in Paris.

lol, Gretchen. I actually wrote "You can take a taxi to your illegal rental near the Eiffel Tower. Plan to use the RER to get to Versailles and use the metro and buses for around town." I decided it was too snarky, so I erased it.

airbnb + Paris = almost certainly illegal. But Gretchen beat me to it.

>>what is the best way to travel to Versailles and around the city<<

'Around the city' will on foot, by metro, by bus, or even Batobus - depending on where you are going..

Three ways to reach Versailles by rail -

Mainline train from Gare Montparnasse but the Chantiers station in Versailles that it goes to is about a mile from the palace (but if doing Chartres and Versailles in the same day - very possible then leave from Chantiers or end up there

Suburban SNCF train from Saint-Lazare station toVersailles Rive-Droit station near the town center.

RER C from the Eiffel Tower area itself - the closest to the palace- practically right across the street

For variety go via RER C-see the palace and then walk over to the really sweet town center (old wrought-iron market sheds in its outdoor market area) and then take the train from Versailles-River Droit via La Defense to St Lazare - this gives you a great view of Paris en route when it goes thru Suresnes (get off there to savor awesome views of Paris all spread out below).

I will be in Paris for 9 days- so much confidence behind a computer screen never really taking into consideration that there is actually a human being reading the responses on the other side. Thanks for all of the info

Google Maps and ViaMichelin.

If you try them out now you will feel more confident once you are there.

It isn't you who is 'unlawful'. It is the owner of the flat that is almost certainly breaking the law. How would you feel if the apartment is pulled off the market two days before you arrive? Happens -and not that infrequently.

Good luck. And have a planB just in case.

To get around Paris the bet ways are feet (shorter distances) or Metro (longer ones). If you plan your days carefully you can usually Metro to beginning and/or end of the day and walk everyplace in between.

We just grab a cab from the airport into town.

Others can give you more info on the legality of apts in Paris but I know there have been reports of apts being cancelled at the last moment.

Don't be "too" snarky about that--we were serious. You apparently are not.

any verifiable data to support that? Others have said it rarely happens - where do you get your info that it is liable to happen?

Yes, apartments are pulled off the market every day. May not happen to the OP, in fact probably won't. But the odds get worse every month

To my knowledge and yes I made phone calls, renters in Paris are allowed to rent up to 120 days per year. And of course they have to pay the appropriate occupancy taxes. After checking, the renters I chose to rent from have followed these laws for the past several years. If in fact it gets pulled before I get there I will get a hotel room or sleep under the Eiffel tower. Bottom line is, life is not about what you say but how you say it.

Just to advise That reliability of RER between Paris and CDG has been very Poor recently (I mean worse than usually, which says it all...)

Never happened and never will PQ.

Two conflicting views - again janis where do you get your facts - Woin is a semi-resident of Paris so I'd take his word more but obviously have some reason to say it - how do you know - sincerely as this topic comes up again and again.
