Traveling alone
I am going to be spending about a week in England with my husband. I will be alone during the days as he will be working and was hoping someone could help me figure out what not to miss! I will be in Bolton Corby and Swindon. I guess most importantly I need to know if there is easy access to trains without having a car. I would really appreciate any ideas from people I am extremely excited. I am also contemplating one day/night in Scottland with my husband after he is finished with his work and would appreciate any ideas for what to do and where to stay as well!
Thanks!
Thanks!

Is that "Bolton Corby" or "Bolton and Corby"?
If the latter then you'll be in three totally different areas of England.
Bolton is near Manchester, Swindon has a direct bus service to Avebury (think Stonehenge without the fence or entrance fee).

Bolton is, by public transport, so close to central Manchester you can get almost anywhere (go to www.nationalrail.co.uk, scroll down to "show me live departures" and there's a full list of where)
Swindon is underwhelming, to put it politely. But it's got very fast trains to London and Bath, and easy connections to Oxford and Winchester. It's also an excellent local bus hub to some jolly pretty villages (search at www.carlberry.co.uk)
Corby has, most of the day, only trains to London via nowhere you'd really want to stop. There used (not needed to check lately, but I think they've long stopped) to be buses to Stamford (wonderful, and make sure your husband sorts himself out so you can both visit it by car). It's quite good for longish-distance buses, but the only places I'd visit served by ordinary buses (http://www.carlberry.co.uk/rfnshowl.asp?L1=COR032) are Peterborough (outstanding cathedral) and Rushden (scarcely discovered pretty market town, with a bra factory but no market any more)

PS
99% of the population of Corby is Scottish. Or at least their fathers were when they brought the steelworks with them. It'll take forever to get to Scotland (Corby is just about the longest distance from an airport of anywhere in England, and it's got truly awful long distance train connections)
So just go into a pub, order a Younger's Special and pretend you're in Scotland.

@ alanrow- I will be in three areas you are correct I overlooked the commas in my sentence appologies. I will be in Swindon, Corby, and Bolton. The order is not specific as of yet.
@flanneruk- thanks for the heads up about Corby, that is what I was afraid of. This is my second trip to England. The first was similar only we stayed our entire trip in London just outside of Heathrow Airport to be more exact but I loved how easy it was to hop on a train and get everywhere. I went to Leed's Castle, Stonehenge, Hampton Court, and many places in London proper.
Can't wait to get back!
