Travel the World!

My wife and I will be traveling the world for an entire year, probably right after I finish graduate school. If you had the opportunity to travel for an entire year what would you make sure you did? Some out of the usual things, countries, places would be of partiucular interest. For example, has anyone taken a train across China or Russia type thing? Thanks in advance.

I wish you a lot of fun!
The world is too big. You'll realize that one year is not enough to go to all the fun places. Isn't this amazing?
I have taken trains in China. Frankly speaking, I am not a train person. But taking the train in China seems to be an unforgettable experience according to all my friends that have taken a train there.
I heard there is a train going from northeast China to Moscow via Siberia. This is really a trip I'd like to do. I want to see Russia, I want to see Siberia. The train is always booked out early early. You might want to do some research about it. Did you read about cruising along the Russian river (I don't know the name of the river). It sounds like fun too.
Are you thinking about safari in Africa? Camel riding in Egypt?
Have a lot of fun!

I'm not affiliated with this website at all, but they have wonderful information on RTW (round the world) travel. A lot of people have written about their journeys there and have some great suggestions, so you might want to take a look:

http://www.bootsnall.com/

Good luck. Your trip sounds wonderful!

Jennifer

There was a couple who reported on their around the world trip in the Los Angeles Times travel section a couple of years ago maybe less). You might look up the LA Times on the internet and see if you can access their reports.

I would start in the Polynesian islands, the far Tuamotus, armed with a laptop and my travel folder with all the amazing places I've clipped and promised myself to see. There I would plan my year and have my friends join me at different times culminating at dinner a year later at my place (of course Nina will cook). Paciano, you must keep this post going with your ideas. Have a great trip man.

Don't miss Indonesia! There are some spectacular train trips there too. In many ways, Indonesia has it all: cities, culture, ruins, mountains, beaches, poverty, affluence, chaos, serenity, pungent smells, vibrant colors, mesmerizing music, and some of the best food in the world!
