travel savvy in Great Britain

Hi Everyone,

The following is a quiz to test road savvy. I am compiling a list of
this kind of savvy travel quizzes. If people on this forum is interested,
I will post them here from time to time.

Question: Where can you eat cheaply but good in London?

a) Go to a restaurant every time you want to eat
b) Buy food in the street from street-vendors
c) Eat in a small-version of the big supermarkets
d) Make use of different bars that locals usually visit

I provide my answer in a few days. In the mean time, let me know what
you think the correct answer is.

I encourage other people post their own quiz questions here so we can swap some
travel tips and have some fun at the same time. I am currently putting together
a list of savvy travel tips (tips to save money, save time, stay safe, etc.). But
instead of presenting a long and dry list of tips, I re-make them into quiz
questions. Anyone who wish to suggest some quiz ideas are encouraged to do so,
I can be reached at [email protected]

The answer is "none of the above".

Street vendors are notorious for charging over the odds for spectacularly inedible food, smaller versions of big supermarkets ("Sainsbury's Local&quot charge premium prices over their mainstream branches and who on earth, when at home, eats in bars? Indeed, who with a mental age of 15 or over eats or even drinks in London bars at all - all of them cacophonous dives, aimed at adolescents, and no substitute at all for real pubs?

So we've got that it's a catch question (or that you've never been to Britain). Now what's the prize?

I'd say D) too. (And I'm sure that by 'bars' you actually mean pubs.)

I'd say

e) buy a decent restaurant guide or
f) eat ethnic

I wouldn't just trust locals eating in 'bars'. Local doesn't necessarily equal foodie here. Besides, 'locals' visit ALL bars. If there's a bar in London only populated by tourists, then I haven't seen it. Now, Angus Steakhouse is another matter....

Multiple choice doesn't make sense to me, as there could be more than one "correct" answer. I'd go with Kate's f) eat ethnic, particularly China town, followed by a decent pub and if you're really broke (or for a picnic lunch), sandwiches from Marks and Spencers.

I appreciate your attempt, but I think the quiz thing is sort of silly and I agree that there can never be only one correct answer. I'd have to disagree with all four choices above if you are talking about "knowing" you will get good food. Locals often eat at places where the food is simply awful. To think that every small "supermarket" has good quality food is simply naive. Eating from street vendors CAN be dangerous, to say nothing of being mediocre or bad, and obviously not every restaurant is either cheap nor good.
So I guess the answer to your first question is "none of the above". I agree with flanneruk.

Your "quiz" doesn't make much sense. And from your references to street vendors and "bars" it actually sounds like you've never been to London.

But I'd guess you posted it just because you did the same thing over on the Asia forum and didn't get a single bite . . . . .

Ok, I know there are some flaws about this quiz but that's why your help is required! I encourage you to propose your own quiz! Or at least quiz ideas
You can try other quizzes on www.infohub.com, but actually your help with quiz suggestions would be very much appreciated!

I think the really obvious answer is
H) Eat at FlannerUK's house EVERY day and night.

To make your quiz more fitting to London, I would change it to:

a) dine at one of London's many ethnic restaurants.
b) purchase a quick take-away meal at one of the sandwich shops or grocery food halls.
c) dine at one of London's many pubs.
d) all of the above

Of course, d is the correct answer. You can eat inexpensively at them all.

i'm not sure of the nature of your project but if you intend for it to be anything other than for your own enjoyment, then i would travel more to the areas you are offering tips about so you sound like you know what you are talking about.

I agree, none of the above.
Also, for goodness sake, write ten times.

Cheaply and well.
