Travel-related dreams?!
My trip is to Ireland in Sept., but this is kind of a general query to all Fodorites...
Over the last few weeks I've been having travel-related dreams. Not really bad ones, but in one I realized that I forgot to pack extra batteries for the camera. In one I realized that I brought all my travel money in US dollars and was kicking myself for not leaving it in the bank to get out of an ATM. I'm not psychiatrist, but I think it's pretty obvious that I'm afraid I'm going to forget something! It must be some deep subconsious thing; I'm usually a very easy-going traveler but this trip is a life's dream for me. I haven't been to Europe for 6 long years now, so I have to cram 6 years of yearning into 2 weeks. Anyone else have any interesting travel dreams they care to share? I'm keeping a list of all the things I 'forget' in my dreams to make sure it doesn't really happen!

Yes, I dream swimming, sleeping, drinking and eating fish, watching the moon and starts and sunsets and swimming again than be lazy on the hammuck........at west Mediterranean in Turkey.... Why bother with batteries of camera, or atm card or your favorite t-shirt etc. Look forward for the holiday, have your tickets, passport and credit card, whats so important if you forget something ? Do not worry and just enjoy ;-))

One simple solution is to prepare a standard packing list. I use one for every trip. Note reminders like medications, passport, airline tickets and all the normal things--socks, shoes, etc. Then, hopefully, your dreams will turn to the exquisite pleasures of Provence, Paris, Ireland, Italy, etc..
Happy dreams!

As a matter of fact, I had two travel-related dreams last night. In the first I was with my daughter and her boyfriend in Paris. We left him napping in the hotel room to go sightseeing, and my daughter was commenting on how all the French guys were "hot". Then we ran into old friends getting off the metro.
In the second, my husband, daughter, and I were packing to to Europe. It was after 1pm and I was still in pajamas and not packed when I realized that our plane was taking off at around 1:30, and the airport is over an hour away! I was scrambling around trying to find the tickets so I could call the airline, and everything was just chaos.
My trip isn't until November, and I'm already stressing!

It simply sounds like pre-trip anxiety expressing itself. Get some lists going and start packing your suitcase might make you feel more secure.
My favorite travel-related dreams are after a trip, when I dream I am in that place again (how I make the other people all speak French in my dream, and everything appear so real, I have no idea!).

Always. I'm on the wrong bus, and it's going somewhere I can't get back from. Or I can't get back to a place I'm trying to find. Or the streets don't go where I expect them to. Or I suddenly have a very very long walk back after a train ride gone amiss. Or I miss the train.
And I'm not a psychiatrist either, but I get that it isn't about getting on the wrong bus.

I occasionally have them. They are normal pre-trip anxiety, IMHO -- mine usually involve forgetting something important, or getting to the wrong airport, etc. Nothing terribly stressful, though.
I did have dreams that I remember quite clearly before my first trip to Europe. I dreamed very clearly of Ireland (my first trip was 3 days in Ireland, 12 days in England).
In my dream I am in a village, riding a bike up out of the village, onto a hill. There is tall grass on either side of me, so it's hard to see (it's a path, not a road). It winds around until I come across a cottage, which is someone's house and antique store, and the place is chock full of great stuff, handmade crafts, antiques, etc. I spend hours there and then realize that I've missed my flight home. Hmmmm....
