Travel Insurance- DAN

I have read posts about getting travel insurance through DAN. Has anyone actually been ill or injured so they had to use their insurance? If so, did you find them prompt and helpful?

Back when I was in a scuba club, someone one from DAN was the speaker. Gave examples of some rescue/evauations and some funny stories of people calling, explaining their symptoms and asking how soon after subscribing does the insurance kick in. I know the operators there are emt's or rn's.

Since it was a DAN person speaking, he made the service wonderful. I have evacuation insurance at work so I haven't bought from them.

Thanks Ira, European17 and ncgirl for your help. I guess no one has had to use this insurance, which is good, if we get it we hope we won't have to use it either! Enjoy your day!!

I have friends who have DAN membership and an emergency medical kit from them. I'm not sure if the medical kit is available to the general public (they are divemasters). Good stuff in there like oxygen so I don't know if you can bring it on a plane. I'm glad they bring it along on dives since we are going off a private boat and not a charter.

They have never had to use the insurance but it's worth the price for them. I don't think it costs much more for the insurance if you are a member.

Hi Lallie,

I have this in my notes:

http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/me...p/benefits.asp

Basic membership gives you 100k worth of evacuation insurance (not medical coverage- but just to get you home) for diving or non-diving accidents or injuries from anywhere 50 miles from your home or farther. The family membership is $44.

That's very cheap insurance.

Ira - you are correct, that is VERY cheap insurance. We have medical insurance to cover us,so just wanted something to get us home, if the need arises. Was concerned because of how cheap it is, if they provide good service like they advertise. Don't want to end up with an emergency and have to hassle with a company. I checked, we can't get an add on policy with our health insurance or with our personal property insurance. Thanks for the information you provide. I think we will give them a try.
