travel insurance

AAA gave me a family care trip assist travel insurance brochure. Anyone have any experience with this outfit or is insurance unnecessary?

You can compare travel insurance companies and policies on www.insuremytrip.com. My health insurance changed in January and no longer covers me out of the country. You might check your current policy and see if you have any coverage.

We have insured most of our trips through the AAA travel insurance. We only had to use it once but they paid for air and hotels when we had a medical cancellation at the last minute.

A cousin broke her hip in Rome and they flew a nurse to be with her at the Italian hospital and then back first class in two seats because she had to recline. Everything was covered. I'll bet with medical, hotels and travel plus the nurse the bill was getting well over $50,000.

I suggest travel insurance when you are using tickets that are non-refundable. I use access america. It feels good to know that if i got sick or something severe that I could get my money back for my trip expenses.

I say if a lot of money is involved, go for the insurance. But I know that many people are against it.

Does AAA actually have their own travel insurance or are they using one of the companies on insuremytrip?

Well there is all kinds of travel insurance.

You can buy insurance covering you if you have to cancel your trip due to various reasons.

There is insurance that will cover medical bills while out of the country.

There is insurance that will cover evacaution from the country you are visiting to get you back to your home and the hospital/doctor in your own city.

I have never purchased any insurance but am beginning to think it probably is a good idea. Interesting about the AAA insurance. www.insuremytrip.com seems to be the website all the travel experts recommend. You evidently can compare coverages, prices etc.

IMO losing the cost of what you paid for airline tickets is a minor matter compared to having some serious medical problem while out of the country. AisleSeats cousin's medical problem is an example. Sounds like she had excellent insurance.
