I purchased such trip insurance through initaly.com We picked an amount that would cover the major items (like airfare and non-refundable deposits -- of which there is only one for our May trip). With some discussion of AIRLINE strikes, it seemed to make sense to insure for peace of mind (and I reread the policy to make sure we'd be covered in those circumstances!)

before you buy any insurance read the FINE PRINT. you may well discover that what you thought was covered is not. refer to the comsumer union travel letter ofr a more complete discussion of this subject. many policies are a royal rip off. ie some prepaid items like hotel rooms are not covered

We have used several and the best one is CSA Travel Insurance. I had a terrible tooth ache when I was in Turkey and needed root canal work. At first, they wanted me to find a dentist in Turkey, however, when I told them that it's not safe to drink the water and I wanted to go home to see my dentist, they said O.K. Within several weeks, they had reimbursed the cost for the portion of the tour that we missed and they reimbursed me some money for the dental work also!! They also made the arrangements for our return flight home and got us new tickets. No I don't work for them..but it is good for peace of mind. For more information, 1-800 348 9505.
