Suggest you (and about a thousand other Fodorites) learn to spell itinerary. It figures pretty heavily into the subject matter here - would be useful if people looking for one could spell it, no?

While I'm here, it's Amsterdam, not Amesterdam - this will help you in web searches, I hope. It sure is hard to get good info on the web if you can't spell, you know.

Tara - first, let me say to ignore the rude poster. Yes, correct spelling is nice, but we'd never share any great travel info if we are all so picky doing spell checks on each other. I certainly can say that itinerary is one that many people spell incorrectly on this board...

As to your question, it might help to know the ages of your children and whether you are flying in and out of Amsterdam or Paris or flying in one and out the other.

But, I'd take a stab at this: I'd balance out the city experiences with a little countryside/smaller towns. After maybe 3 days in Amsterdam or nearby Haarlam, you could rent a car and plot a very nice course going south through Belgium (Brugge is a wonderful town) and then on to the Normandy area, seeing Mt. San Michelle, for example, then maybe Giverny, or Chartres or Versailles, France. This could be spread over about 5 days. Then, you could return the rental car at one of these locations, outside of Paris and train into Paris, spending your last 4 nights there.

I've traveled with kids and they sure do love a train trip or two, but seeing smaller towns is much easier with the car.

Hi Tara,

First of all I'm sorry you got the last post about your spelling errors. It really bothers me when people bring up other people's errors. I guess some people are perfect, or at least think they are.

About Amsterdam, it wasn't one of my favorite places, but then everyone likes something different. I certainly wouldn't spend more than 1 day there. It has potential, but needs lots of attention. I haven't been to Paris, so I can't help you there. Have a great trip in July. We just returned from England and had a wonderful time!

(Please correct me if I have spelled anything wrong Ms./Mr. anonymous spell check person. How nice you have nothing better to do with your time.)

Robbyn
