transportation to Capri from Salerno
We are planning to travel to Capri from Florence Nov. 12. We will probably go by train from Florence to Rome, connect to a train to Naples/Salerno and take a ferry. Can anyone confirm this and tell us how we go about finding a ferry schedule and making reservations? Thank you.

There is no need to change trains in Rome. You can take a Eurostar from Florence to Naples; it will take a little more than 3 1/2 hours.

(Point of departure: Firenze; destination: Napoli)
I'm no expert on the Amalfi Coast, but my guess is that there are more ferries from Naples to Capri than from Salerno to Capri. You will be traveling in November, though, and the ferry schedules -- which I hope someone can give you the link to -- may be reduced. You might also be faced with ferry cancellations due to bad weather.

There are many aliscafi (Jet boats) from all points. Go to www.caremar.com www.alilauro.com and www.snav.com If you go to a Capri website you will see a site for transports. Also as the above poster mentioned you can take a train directly to Naples from Florence. I don't think you have to change to go to Salerno, but you can check with Trenitalia.

I doubt whether you can go from Salerno to Capri in November. Winter services to Capri run from Napoli and Sorrento. You will not need to make reservations in advance. For schedules, try www.caremar.it, www.navlib.it, www.alilauro.it or www.snav.it, but they probably don't have schedules for November yet. Basically, you just go to the port and look at the different companies' ticket offices to find the next sailing.
