Rome to Ischia/Capri

Is it possible to go from Rome to these two islands without going to the Amalfi coast? If so, how would one do it--how long is the trip, etc.

Any personal experiences you can give will be appreciated-

Last Ocotber we flew from U.S. to Rome and immediately took airport train to Romes main train station and connected to Naples. Took a cab to the ferry and arrived in Capri. We arrived in Rome around 7am and were in Capri at 2pm so the connections are good. We stayed at the Villa Brunella in Capri and consider it to be our favorite. It is beautiful and you will have a great time.

Rome to Naples and then a ferry to the islands. No need to go further south than Naples to the Amalfi Coast.

Powell - You can find timetables for hydrofoils/ferries from Naples (Molo Beverello) to Capri on:

http://www.capri.net/salsa/lang/en/p...ting_here.html

- and to Ischia on:

http://www.ischiaonline.it/page.php?...amp;sez=MOVIME

There are also services from Naples Mergellina port.

You can find timetables for services between Capri and Ischia on:

http://www.capri.net/salsa/lang/en/page/transport.html

Hope this helps ...

The services from the Amalfi coast run only in summer. The main ferry services to Capri are from Napoli and Sorrento, and to Ischia from Napoli and Pozzuoli. In Napoli, ships sail from Molo Beverello which is in the centre of the city but at least a 20-minute walk from the Centrale station; fast craft go from Molo Beverello or Mergellina which is north of the centre near Mergellina station.

If flying into Naples, which is the better port to take a taxi to, to get the fast ferry to Ischia? Idea of cost for such a taxi?

Molo Beverello is much nearer.

Taxi cost? If you get a legit taxi, about € 20 at a guess.

Otherwise there is a bus every few minutes from Capodichino to Molo Beverello.

Always remember to make sure the taxi driver brings you to Molo Beverello. He may try to tell you there are more Aliscafi (jet boats or hydrofoils) from Mergellina. It's not true and Mergellina is much farther away so he can charge you a fortune.

I just made this trip 2 weeks ago, Eurostar from Rome to Naples, approx 90 minutes (bought the ticket at a travel agent in Rome to avoid the long lines... they don't charge for the service). From Napoli Centrali, taxi ride was about 15 minutes with heavy traffic Molo Beverello... the driver charge me 10 euros, which is a bit high, but i didn't fight it. the hydrofoil didn't take long to Ischia Porto. enjoy your trip, Ischia is a fabulous island!! definitely take the bus to San't Angelo... it was my favorite. buon viaggio...
