Transportation from Naples to Positano

We would appreciate any insite on the best way to travel from the train station in Naples to our hotel in Positano. Should we have the hotel pick us up $160.00USD one way from Naples and $60.00USD from Sorrento. Or is it best to wing it-and get a cab at the station.
Also, Is is easier to train it to Sorrento from Naples, or leave from Naples??

I think it is worth the money to have the hotel pick you up in Naples. That's how I have done it twice and plan to again in May. I don't think the train to Sorrento is as nice as a Eurostar, for example, and I haven't wanted to try it. But I am sure others on this site have and can help.

Shelley, why not aliscafo from one of the two harbours of Naples ( Beverello or Mergellina ) to Positano ?!? Only fortyfive minutes and cheaper than other solutions.
Ciao.

Re transportation from Naples to Positano. We took the local train from Naples to Sorrento and took a cab from there to Le Sireneuse. When we had to return to the airport though the hotel was just wonderful about getting us a driver who took us back to Naples.

Very very hospitable and accomodating.

Shelley,
You can take the train down as far as Sorrento from Naples, and there is bus service to Positano. I believe the bus service is just outside the train terminal.

Kay:
Hydrofoils between Naples and Positano run only from June to September.
A solution could be hydrofoil from Naples to Sorrento ( every day in every month ) and cab from Sorrento to Positano. It isn't the cheapest solution, but the finest as you look at the Bay of Naples from the sea.

My husband arranged for the Sorrento palace to have a car meet us in Naples and bring us back to the hotel. I was concerned about the extra money. However, it was so great (we were travelling with our 12 & 14 yr old boys) that we arranged to keep the driver and take us thru the amalfi coast, as well as back to Naples. Let me tell you...with those narrow road, traffic and buses, it was a delight and well worth if!
