transportation from Florence to Sienna, San G, Pisa

Could someone help me with directions on how to get from Florence to Siena, San G and Pisa? Bus? Train?
Or if someone has already written a trip report that has information to help me, please point me to them!

These will be 2 one-day trips from Florence and what would be the best combination? I have read Pisa can be done in one morning, if so, should I combine that with Siena or San G.?
thanks for all your inputs!

We took a bus from Florence to San Gimi early morning and from there a bus to Siena and back to Florence late evening. We had lunch in Siena.

For Pisa, we left early morning by train to Lucca and then took another train to Pisa in the afternoon after lunch and returned to Florence by tain in the evening.

Try to go early in the morning to avoid the crowds.

You could do Siena and S. Gimignano in one day. You can use the Sita bus company, whose terminal is just across the railway station of S.Maria Novella in Florence. From Siena you can continue (still by bus) to S.Gimignano. You could do one place in the morning and another in the afternoon though Siena in particular deserves more than that.

Pisa can be combined with Lucca. Train to Pisa and afternoon in Lucca and then train again and back to Florence.

Train back and forth to Pisa from Florence..frequent, almost hourly service, no reservations required. The trip takes one hour each way Florence-Pisa.

I would agree that your two trips should be one by train to Pisa and Lucca. I suggest going directly to Pisa in the morning, then returning to Lucca to spend as much time as you want in the afternoon, before returning to Florence by train.

I'd combine SanGimignano and Siena in one day trip also. I'd probably try to do SG first to avoid the heavier crowds of the afternoon.

Hi ll,

SITA bus leaves for Siena (only one N) from the bus station on Via Santa Caterina de Siena, near the SMN train station.

Buses from Siena to San Gim to Florence via Poggibonsi are at http://www.sangimignano.net/bus/

llcc - Here's the Florence-Siena* page:

http://demo.busweb.it/tplManager/ora...=&Pagina=1

For Siena-Florence buses*:

http://demo.busweb.it/tplManager/ora...asp?linea=2695

* For later departures click 2,3,4 etc. under 'stampa' (- top right).

Ira's give you a link for connections to San G if you want to combine the two.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

i am sure it is possible by train fromn the train station at St Maria Novella. The trip would take about 1 hour. I have just been there last week, but iwas stationed in Lucca where all destinations you mentioned where reachable by train or bus. For San Gimigniano we hired a guide from www.lifeoftuscany.net. They were very firendly and full of information. If you go to Pisa you should not miss Lucca- its about 30 mins by bus.
