Transportation

Alrighty...I'm lucky I found this forum. I'm loading up with questions and info. Is it easy to get around the country with public transportation? Are we missing out on alot by not renting a car? I know I'm not comfortable with driving overseas and my cousin isn't either. Any comments on this? Thanks!

What country, What airport??

Just to let you know - this a forum that covers all of Europe so it is best to include more details in your titles.

What country? If you are talking about Germany, it is absolutely unnecessary to have a car. For other countries, I think it is the same, but I only consider myself an expert on German travel, so I can't be so sure.

Oh - posted too soon.

Welcome to Fodors. I notice that all 3 of you threads have pretty generic titles -- "Transportation", "Beaches", and last minute lodging.

I now know you are asking about Ireland - but that is only by opening your other threads.

It is easier to get off the beaten path if you have a car. Buses are useful in a lot of areas. But trains really don't work that well for touring in Ireland.

Whoops...argh...I'm sorry. I apparently need to learn how to work these a bit better. How do I even fix my title headings. I did mean Ireland. Buses are ok then? Sorry again guys. I'm in the midst right now of trying to figure out how to update my posts.

unfortunately - you can't. It is a weakness w/ fodors' programming. But don't worry -- just about everyone goes through teething problems learning the ins and outs of this forum. Don't get frustrated - this is an amazing resource.

Yes - buses work pretty well. But you will be at the mercy of bus schedules more aimed at locals than tourists.

Oh - sheesh. Just noticed one of the "lame" thread titles I blamed on you was someone else's and you just added your own question.

See - lots of other people have the same problem

I suggest that you start all new posts. In the subject line include the country, city, dates of your trip, and then the topic. For all we know you are looking for "transportation" to Mars. Focus your questions and you will get meaningful answers.
