transport between Bergen, Alesund and Geirganger
I am planning my first trip to Norway for the last 2 weeks of August, 2015. I am travelling solo and am thinking about spending a few days each in Bergen, Alesund and Geirganger. I plan on doing some day hikes and boat trips from each location. Is it easy to use public transport to get from one of these towns to the others? I am not interested in renting a car - I like to travel by train, bus or boat. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Marti:
Have you thought about taking the coastal express (Hurtigruten):
In summer it leaves Bergen at 20:00 and arrives at Ålesund at 08:45 next morning. It also serves Geiranger in summer (depart Ålesund 09:30, arrive Geiranger 13:25 same day).
More information and booking facility at:
http://www.hurtigruten.com/uk/?country=UK
Note this is the UK site; you have to click the "port-to-port" tab in order to book short trips; the US site lacks this feature.
Hope this helps. Enjoy your trip
Phil.

Bus Bergen - Ålesund:
http://www.nor-way.no/timetables/ route no 430.
During the summer season there are daily departures by bus from Ålesund/Åndalsnes to Geiranger (ends August 31st).
Summer timetables are published around May 1st.

JJZZ -
Thanks. I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out the timetable, but all I need to know now is that I would be able to get busses or boats to travel between these towns - is that correct? About how long would it take to get from Alesund to Geiranger by bus - a full day? Is there water transport that is better? What would your advice be?
Thanks,
Marti

Fastest bus/boat connection Ålesund – Geiranger: 3 hours.
Second fastest bus/boat connection: 4 hours (same as Hurtigruten).
Roundtrip: double or combine, 6-8 hours travel time.
My preferred route:
Ålesund – Magerholm – Ørsneset (Sykkulven) – Stranda – Hellesylt – Geiranger – Eidsdal – Linge – Valldal – Trollstigen – Åndalsnes.
Travel time 7 hours. Add 3 hours back to Ålesund or “Google” Rauma Railway.
